Had the incredible pleasure to taste a white reticulata while visiting John Painter on Pine Island. The white reticulata is very rare to start with. There is 1 known tree locally, as the original tree was chopped down. John's tree is of seedling origin but stands over 20 feet tall. Fruits are large and white, with subtle coloring. At first bite, the flavor immediately explodes with an annona squamosa type sugar savor followed by custard flan and vanilla. It smells wonderful and the texture can vary from firm to really ripe. The one eaten today was ripe and a little soft, but clearly the best reticulata (have sampled at least 6 different varieties) eaten and in the top tier of all fruits.
