Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Looking for Pineapple varieties
« on: June 17, 2018, 02:35:48 AM »
Hello,

in one week I'll be in New York anyone know where I can buy pineapple fruits of particular varieties (for example white shade, red spanish, smooth cayenne, sugarloaf) in order to take crowns and bring them in the suitcase ?

Or anyone know a seller who can send ...even if it would be better to bring only crowns and not rooted plants.

thanks

- pomelo valentine scions and smith red valencia
- and not tropical fruits .... cordyline fruiticosa and croton

Yes mate. Not many of them, and people outside of Sicily have and hard time getting them (as absurd it may look), but yes, they do sell scions. And they should also have an huge germplasm base (they don't obtain all those cool new varieties without a starting point - but i have never been able to find a list anywhere). I bet that if you contact the right person (hard time guessing who can be) you may find someone that will allow you to get what you may need. You know better than me that Sicilian guys can be extremely kind.

You know, for instance that we have this little gem here?
http://agrumilenzi.it/products-page/prodotti/citrus-prodotti/clementino-rubino-citrus-clementina/

yes, i have amoa8 ...and the confusion around the affinity or not with rubino

Yeah, it has been a nice surprise for me too. I think it isn't very famous because it is in french, and language barrier can conceal it to not native french speakers. Citrus is Europe are well accessible and represented, the need for import from california are relatively limited (except of course the clones originating there). What i really envy to you guys is the community; in France they have a lot of fruit lovers, in Italy we don't have a strong community so we can hide some gems too, but nobody knows it because there isn't a community were to share results/experiences/suggestions. It's way easier to search for information here than look for information in italian sites.
I think Acireale germplasm bank is great too, but the sell few scions, apparently.

CRA of Acireale sells scions?

Why you are willing to import from California in Italy citrus that are already here, is beyond me! Please do your research before importing anything.
From a particularly quick search on the most famous sellers of citrus for collectors in Italy:
http://agrumilenzi.it/products-page/prodotti/citrus-prodotti/limone-meyer-citrus-meyerii/
http://agrumilenzi.it/products-page/prodotti/citrus-prodotti/limetta-messicana-citrus-aurantifolia/

Millsweet is probably something around here in Europe with another name.
I personally have an acidless lime with a strong bergamot scent, received as budwood from guys in France. I'm willing to share.
Also, are you aware that you can order citrus from the INRA in Corse for few euros and their material doesn't have any health issue, is legal, and their catalog is huge (23 pages, just for names)?

how to take from inra? where is possible to find a list?
they sell scions? or plants?

millsweet i don't know the real name
i'm looking for varieties that are not in italy!!! except lemon meyer

For me Alano and Silas Wood
Tikal, Makok and the others...
Moreno is really good and not syrupy sweet

have you ever tried molix?
however what about the shape and growth of the plants and size of fruits?
thanks

Molix is the same as Alano we've had all of them in our tastings. Haysa and Moreno are the larger fruit and Makok and Silas are the smaller there is nothing incredible about this fruit it's a sugar bomb.

ok so alano and molix are similar...maybe molix a little bigger and less sweet
And about the period of production ....alano and molix produce in the same period?

According to you in Italy it would grow well ?
Pine island nursery has a fruit viewer on its website you can look at. Just search for it online. I'm on a cellphone atm.

PINs viewer is not that accurate.

I agree. I've tasted alano and tikal from my sapodilla trees and Tikal beats Alano by a mile (alano has 5 stars, while tikal has 3). Syrupy sweet with zero stone cells with date/mamey flavor. Don't get me wrong, I still like alano.

Alano produces more than others?
the plants are more or less similar in growth and shape?  molix, alano, silas woods, hasya?
have you tried molix?
