Double Graft on Canistel?
« on: April 20, 2019, 09:53:57 AM »
One of my favorite new-to-me tropical fruits is the canistel and my most awesome amazing girlfriend got me a Trompo Canistel tree as an early birthday present :D

It looks like it has two grafts on it, a veneer and right above it a cleft. Any reason why???

That looks like the first graft on the rootstock might not have taken so they regrafted on the new growth.

Or an interstock for whatever reason.
I have a pond apple on which I grafted a cherimoya on which I then grafted an atemoya.
It was the outcome of a failed attempt to graft on atemoya onto pond apple.
I don't know enough about Canistel to speculate on why you might need an interstock.

Very cool. How is the compatibility with that? When did you graft?

failed graft (or prune) followed by a re-graft, as Sheehan said.
