Ed's Delight Loquat
« on: March 18, 2012, 11:11:39 PM »
Got a loquat from Hopkins, called Ed's Delight.  I had to joke with Edself65, (because of earlier posts about sweet sensation), but I call this one Ed's sensation.   ;D

Anyone ever taste or grow this one?

It sold out quickly at their plant sale.

I got grafted Christmas, Golden Nugget, and Ed's Sensation.  Each cost 15, and were in 1 gal, about 1.5 ft tall or more.

I'm always pleased with all of the plants I've got from them.

Thanks in advance to all who post here.

Used to be called Adam's Delight, but Hopkins renamed it Ed's Delight so they wouldn't have to pay you royalties. HAHAHAHAHA

Hmmm...have not heard of this one. Did they describe the fruit size or flavor at all?

Ed and his brother Oliver lived in Bradenton, and were born on Christmas.

Having wild loquats all of Bermuda, I am amazed with named varieties.  It was the leat impressive thing I saw at Harry's mecca.  We are in full season now and picking them fresh off the tree.  Gotta wait until fully ripe and they are sweet.  I am impressed by the size of some - awaiting seed from an Israel bred large one - but really, named loquats...I dunno man...

There are excellent tasting and very large sized, as well as seedless cultivars of loquat. Most of the trees in USA would be considered junk fruit in Japan where the fruit is relished and very high prices paid.

How can we get the Japanese cultivars here?
