cold weather not over?!
« on: April 22, 2012, 09:41:40 PM »
weather people want me' to believe that it will dip down to 49f in central FL within a day or so...if this is the case, it will set back a few plants I have that are in full bloom...like the M vexator and abius I have that are blooming heavily.  guanabana is gonna hate life to!  hope they are wrong at the weather station like usual...I predict no colder than 55f.

i will be pulling trees in the house if it gets colder than 55f!!!

Adam,

Wow didn't know you pull them in when its colder then 55f, thats dedication. If I was to do the same, I would end up taking in the plants 70% of the year  :P. Would love to see a picture update sometime.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

They are calling for temps in the 57F range in central Palm Beach County.

I would have thought that m. vexator and your abiu could take the 49F without much consequence.  Guanabana.....now that's a different story.  How many potted plants do you haul in when it drops below 55F?  I would imagine that you wouldn't have much living space left inside based on my impression of how many pots you have.  One has to definitely admire your dedication. Let's hope the weather guys are way off the mark. They generally err to the cold side of the temperature prediction....so your prediction may very well be a closer estimate. But how long do you wait until making the move to move them inside?

im thinking that the rain should help keep the plants from drying out, cold dry wind, is the real enemy.

I will wait until later this evening, and then pull two abius 15gal, and only one of my vexators 15gal which has fruits set, but tiny still(a final chill last winter took off the fruits in Dec or Jan.)

not sure what else I'm forgetting!  but the guanabanas will be left out to suffer.

synsepalum dulcificums might need to be moved as well, to avoid the possibility of leaves turning red from cold...making them difficult to sell afterwards.

This morning weatherunderground had my forecast low for tomorrow morning at 46 degrees...l just checked it a few minutes ago and they've since changed it to 52 degrees...lucikly I don't grow anything that I have to bring inside unless the temps drops below 40's. I live appx. 1.5 hours south of you...Good luck Adam!

cold weather wasn't a bother.  it only got about 55 like I said.  didn't have to move plants inside, just out of wind.

thank goodness!  I was worried

It was 43 degrees this morning!! Wow...I loved it and enjoyed the nice cold morning...nice and refreshing compared to what we've had for the last several weeks. Plants all fared well. Back to very warm/hot weather starting tomorrow.

u better water!  that cold air, sucks out the moisture from all of my plants! (in pots especially).

Its like when you get your carpet steam cleaned, and they tell u to bump your ac on full blast!
