Leaf eating spider on mango plant
« on: August 24, 2019, 03:29:40 PM »
Hello members. I am new to the forum. I am in Stuart Fl. And recently planted t mango plants. A Glenn mango and a Coconut Cream plant.  I recently found a spider eating the leaf on the coconut  cream. Does anybody know what kind of spider it is and how to organically get rid of it?

Looks like a jumping spider, family: Salticidae.

Apparently some spiders in the family do eat plants.

You can organically smash it, or capture it and sell it to the circus.

I doubt that little spider ate all that leaf.

That is Araneus detrimentosus or Eriophora ravilla either way it is a orb weaving spider. Complexly harmless to your plants and family. Does not eat plants.

I am a bug guy also!!!

If you zoom in on the image you can see that is old damage on the leaf.

Here is another pic. I moved him a couple of times and he just kept going back to the edge where the damage is.

Yes they don’t eat leaves. Just leave him alone she’ll protect your tree from bugs that can really hurt your tree.
Don’t rush, take time and enjoy life and food.

It's probably waiting for the leaf eating rascals to return.
