Baba Raspberry has been a reliable warmer weather raspberry for me in CA. I have a few plants in smaller containers I could see if interested.

Wow, your weren't kidding when you said you grew a lot of varieties.

When your fruits are done on the Hawaiian Lilokoi yellow, can I get a few cuttings from you?

Nice to hear you got fruits on the Ruby Glow, I purchase 2-3 small plants and they are growing fast. Did you need to hand pollinate the Ruby Glow and if yes, what did you use for the pollen?

Sure! I can get you some yellow cuttings. They do require cross pollination with another purple/red edulis variety like a Frederick.

Ruby Glow requires cross pollination. I have done a lot of testing and the only one I can get to pollinate it is Passiflora Caerulea. I have 4-5 Caerulea plants just for pollinating other varieties.

What is the sweetest one that does not need hand pollination or cross pollination?

Of ones I have actually tried so far, I would say the standard Frederick. Im hoping the Laurifolia will flower and cross pollinate. I am super interested in trying those.

Here is what is fruiting:

Passiflora Edulis var flavicarpa (Hawaiian Lilokoi yellow)

Passiflora Edulis 'Frederick'

Passiflora Edulis 'Galaxy' (this was bought at Ricardo's nursery in Anaheim.

Passiflora Phoenicia 'Ruby Glow'

Passiflora Edulis 'Golden Sweet' (also bought at Ricardo's)

I have the following flowering as well: passiflora caerulea, passifora incaranata, passiflora incense. Passiflora Edulis 'Columbia Red' will be flowering soon. Passiflora Lingularis is now 4 years old and neither have flowered.

I have about 20 or so other varieties either in seedlings or newly acquired plants that I am waiting for flowering: nigradenia, antioquiensis, tarminiana, mollissima, laurifolia, cumbalensis, pinnatistipula, serrulata, maliformis, platyloba, quadrangularis,  and quite a few edulis hybrids.

Shaxs, that is very good news about your cuttings. Yes, it is self fertile, but if you hand pollinate you have much higher percent of fruit set. I'm seeing about 50% of my hand pollinated flowers set fruit if I do it at the right time of the day.

Mbmango, now after hand pollinating my flowers for more than a few weeks, I determined the best time to hand pollinate is between 9-10am here in my location. What I do immediately after I hand pollinate the flowers is to cover it with the larger organza bag. This keeps the bees from removing the pollen from the stigma and I get more fruit set this way. I see a lot of bees around each flower when I can smell the fragrance from the flowers in the morning.

I had pollinate and cross pollinate every day :) Its one of my zen things to do during the day :)

I was able to root and graft my cuttings kaz! Thank you! Im hoping they flower next year. Looks like the flowers are self fertile and produce fruit without a donor. That is great to know. I also have a Passiflora Pheonecia which looks super similar, but requires pollen from another type. Right now I am hand pollinating it with Passiflora Caerulea. It will be curious to see if the decaisneana can pollinate the phoenecia next year.

Very awesome! I have two plants on the way. I am curious if it needs a male/female to fruit.

Reviving this thread as I cannot find much information on them. I was recently intrigued by the newest Weird Explorer video on it. I ordered a few starter plants and I am looking forward to receiving them. I am a little concerned about the mention of toxicity? Anyone growing and eating this?

I recently bought a Eugenia itaguahiensis from Bellamy Trees and it was a beautiful little tree in great packing. Communication was also awesome! Highly recommend!

 Thanks for confirmation. Appreciate it!

Does any one have cuttings or rooted cuttings for sale ?

I hear you. I'm in South Orange county on the Coast. This weather has been brutal. Finally have sunshine and my plants are finally starting to grow. I also lost some other passify from all the rain we got this winter.

Same. Made payment over three months ago and haven't received a single response from AKME. I opened a dispute with my bank against the payee, Kristina Dias, and am looking into small claims court in Baldwin County, AL.  Not sure what's going on with these people but they shouldn't be taking payment if they can't deliver merchandise.

Garden Crochet dot com sells loquat scions as well as fig cuttings. I've ordered the later and was very pleased.

I've also ordered rooted fig cuttings from garden crochet and was very happy with my purchase.

Buy seeds from Shilohtech for Passiflora Laurifolia. They're fresh and have good germination. You'll want at least two unique seedlings that aren't clones for pollination; more is better.

If you buy a seed pack that contains seeds from the same fruit, are seedlings from those genetically different enough to cross pollinate?

15
I'm super interested in p. nitida. How are y'alls plants doing? I'm in SoCal don't 10b and have around 15 passiflora varieties including some p. Laurifolia seedlings. Looking to add p. Nitida. But curious if it needs a pollinator. I do have 5 different caerula planted from different sources to help with pollination too if needed.

I have a P. Phoenecia that I pollinated with P. Caerulea last year. Unfortunately I tracked down the caerulea late in the season and they didnt ripen. Im hoping to have better results this year as I have 4 caerulea now as they are a good pollinator. Im curious to see how they taste.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Rooting Mango Cuttings - Advice needed
« on: October 31, 2022, 04:41:49 PM »
Need advice rooting mango cuttings. I know that rooting cuttings is not the preferred way. I got a little too over zealous and bought more mango scions that I can graft on available trees. I figured instead of letting them go to waste, I would try rooting them. Has anyone tried before? Do I need a warm environment and bottom heat? I want to do this out in my grow shed but its starting to get colder outside. I do have heating mats. I assume some sort of top cover to create a humidity dome. Do they need light while rooting? Figs don’t until the leaves form which is why I am asking.

I have experience rooting passiflora, fig, and a few other type of cuttings.

I was thinking of using the same rooting mix I use for passiflora which is 50% perlite and 50% vermiculite. Here is my thought process:

- Wrap all cuttings in buddy tape

- Scrap an angle at the bottom of the cutting

- Dip in rooting Hormone

- Place in a clear 20 oz cup with slits in the bottom that I use for my other cuttings

- Place plastic bag on top and seal it to the cup to create a humidity dome

- Water but not over saturate the rooting medium

- Place in a tray that has a warming mat underneath it. Not sure what temp to aim for

- Keep out of direct light to help with algae issues until leaves start to form

- Do my rooting dance and pray for good results 😃

So tempted to make the drive down there from Orange County :D Wish you were a tad bit closer!

I have two ligularis that were grown from seed 3-4 years ago. They have not flowered. They are very difficult to grow. I am in Southern California coast and I am hoping they flower next year. Not sure I would try to grow ligularis in Ohio.

The "Orange Cherry of the Rio Grande (Eugenia involucrata)" are those pictures of your fruit? Do they taste the same as the standard Cherry of the Rio Grande?

Hello Shaxs,

No these are not our fruit. Seeds were imported directly from Brazil.

-Steve

Sounds good. Ended up winning and buying the eBay auction

For the Eugenia sp Pitangão Amarelo , I assume these are seedlings? Do you know how long it takes for them to fruit?
