What kind of mango is this?
« on: April 13, 2015, 11:35:53 PM »
Sorry if this is a dupe of my own post, something happened when I posted it earlier today, can't find it.

Anyways, I got these from a local Mexican supermarket. The length is 4"- 5", flavor is sweet though not super fragrant, but still smells very nice. Fiber content is low to moderate. I'm wondering if it's worthwhile to grow it from the seed. The label says "#4312, Produce of Mexico".
Thanks,

That appears to be the typical Manilla/Ataulfo/Champaigne mango.

Trung,

You'll have to have patience (5-7 years) to get fruit from a seedling.
There is also the small possibility that multiple sprouts will grow from an Ataulfo seed ... and one of them will not be identical to the parent.
But Ataulfo does seem to make a pretty good rootstock for grafting onto.
Good luck!

As stated, Ataulfo or Manila. ..you can always google the code on the sticker to find out the specifics.

Thanks everyone for your answers. Considering I already have a few other mango types already, this doesn't sound like it's worth the effort.
Trung,
