Garcinia morella fruits.
« on: March 02, 2018, 11:23:06 PM »
Yesterday I happened to see G.morella fruits at a seminar on 'wild fruits'. The fruits are 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" in size. I was lucky enough to get one to taste. It is sweet with no sourness and a nice flavour.

Thanks for the report.  Do you know if that is typical for the species or does it vary?

There is very little information available about this fruit. I have been told that it is not edible and only has medicinal values!! That is why I never put in much effort to collect the fruits. Yesterday was an accident and this morning when I tasted the fruit, I was pleasantly surprised. There are some trees about 25 miles from my place, in the forest near a friends farm. I have already contacted him and he will inform me when the fruits ripen. I will then be able to give more details.

Sorry, The fruit is confirmed as Garcinia kydia and not Garcinia morella, by a Garcinia expert. I cannot believe that a scientific organisation like IIHR would make such a lousy mistake!
