Any luck fruiting your red ilama?

Omicron is now he dominant variant but delta is still around. It can take months for smell and taste to return.

This tasting was the first I have attended. It was great getting to taste a few new to me cherimoya varieties and other interesting fruits. Above all it was wonderful to meet other fruit growers and put faces with some of the familiar names on this forum. Thanks so much for hosting Brad!

IMHO guavas are great but relatively easy to grow. Many of us love them, however it is not a glamour fruit like cherimoya, lychee, dragonfruit or avocados. A mature tree or two produces more than enough fruit for an entire family. So for some they have lost their prime spot in our gardens.

I am not very knowledgeable on guava varieties bot rest assured there are others that have a depth of knowledge so stay positive and likely one of them will comment.

I just got the fig bug this summer. I have 6 varieties in the ground in Bonsall, north San Diego county. Only second year but both the VdB and Panache have been and still are excellent and very productive. Way better than any store purchased figs. Already have picked up several others to plant early next spring and plan on getting many others including a couple from the black Madeira group. Just did a float test and it looks like I have the wasp. Woohoo. Already have the unk pastiliere to plant. Have any of you planted Male Capris to ensure fog wasps in your gardens?

Losing the ducks is a bummer. If you need an incubator for the eggs I have a couple you can borrow.

It does look similar to atemoya but the segments appear more distinct. This would be my first ilama so I have nothing to compare this fruit to for the flower morphology fruit or leaves. Only pictures.

Yes. It probably is. I have seen a lot of variability in Jak seedlings. If that came up in a pot you put a JF seed you can be pretty sure. Also JF seeds are huge and distinctive so you would not confuse it with most other seeds.

I have a couple of small seedlings I could part with in North San Diego county. No shipping.

In this community we are all very fortunate to have sampled a broader range of flavors than most get a chance to. Some favorites are near universal. Others are an acquired taste. It is hard for me to exclude a producing tree from the garden until I try it for 2 or 3 seasons. By experience these have been high production trees like tropical guava, some figs, passion fruit if they are particularly productive, grapefruits, etc... If I can,t eat process or give it away it needs to go unless it is really ornamental. Unfortunately I like almost everything including Durian and relatively insipid fruits like Wax Jambu.

On the practical side does the property have a well? If not watering mature avocado trees will be very expensive. Also you will have limited room to plant other things.
