Homestead White Sapote
« on: July 31, 2013, 10:50:50 PM »
I just picked up a Homestead White Sapote at Excalibur today.  I was looking for another White Sapote variety (currently have a Redlands and Suebelle).

Can anyone tell me about the flavor of this variety?  I can't seem to find much information, except that it is a smaller variety tree with smaller fruit and is productive.

Chris Rollins told me that the Homestead variety is very similar to the Redlands variety, and they might even be the same thing.  Interesting, because there were a couple of older references on the web which say that the Homestead is a small fruit, about 200 grams, and lower brix.  I seem to remember the Redlands being described as a medium or larger fruit.

I bought a TREC white sapote from Patrick last winter. I have no clue what it's supposed to taste like. I don't even know where I'm going to plant it. Can white sapotes fruit in pots?
