Mango festival question
« on: February 08, 2017, 11:47:05 AM »
A few years ago, there were some additions to the mango festival such as USDA tour, Fruit & Spice Park tour/dinner, and others that spanned 4-5 days.  Is anything like that happening again this year?

Also...what about the timing?  July 8 & 9.  Is there any conjecture on good availability?  Thanks

The Fairchild Festival is likely going to decline significantly in quality with Richard having already left.

Alex, why don't you host one?

Strongly considering it and probably will. Going to network with some other growers.

O yeh that would be awesome. Would rather drive to WPB then Miami any day.

You can have your own production focused list "Squam's Selection"

It already has. Last year the mangoes for sale were all imported, not counting the auction. It's more of a fundraising weekend than anything for Fairchild.

Do it Alex under your 50ft tall Edward trees. Which I posted here before are a mango tree  cathedral. At least 12 -----  50 ft tall Sturrock planted Edward trees there.

2014 was the last year for the Tropical Fruit Conference as it coincided with Chris Rollinia's retirement as Fruit and Spice director.
It had been held every 3 years since the early '80's.

I have never been to a mango fest.
i had planned on going a couple of years ago, but never made it.

Is it the one at Fruit and Spice Park that is the best ?
When is it ?
I really want to go this year.

25th Annual Fairchild Mango Fest Sat July 1 and Sun the 2nd, 2017

http://www.ftg.org/events-community-outreach/international-mango-festival

It's worth going, even if it isn't what it used to be. Fairchild is nice on a bad day. They do sell trees from the Fairchild farm, and they've offered local mangoes every year I've gone. Missed it last year, but would surprised if there are no local and Fairchild grown mangoes.

Willing to travel north for more mango festivities as well!

Fruit and Spice Park hosts Mango Mania and Redlands Summer Fruit Festival on June 10.

I went twice, both times it was insufferably  hot and both times the cooked food stands had GR8 food and lots of overpriced trees were being sold.

Completely agree. Went there once and that was enough for me. I would rather pay $20 and buy in for a smaller taste test.

Note the date change this year to July 1-2.

The ad for the 2016 festival right above saying July 8-9 threw me off the date.
