Post by: Tropical Fruit Bonsai on March 27, 2015, 11:04:28 AM
Hi to all friends,

this is a great chance to find fresh & good quality seeds of Annona Crassiflora from Brasil.

A friend of mine who represents an associaton of Marolo farmers has the chance to sell Annona Crassiflora seeds of the best quality you can find, directly from the producers in Minas Gerais!

I'm giving my help in taking orders of this botanical gem from all conoisseurs of great fruits. He can supply also larger quantities to resellers.

The news of this year is that all the seeds has already been treated with GA3 for improved results !!!

Furthermore we have available also the following seeds:

Annona coriacea
Duguetia lanceolata
Caryocar brasiliense

Cheers,

Giampaolo

Hi guys, here you have a photo of the seeds of the first shipment. They arrived to me mixed with bran to better preserve the quality. I opened some in order to see if they were not completely dry: were simply perfect!

Ciao Coconut!

these seeds come form one of the most friendly and reserved person I ever seen and this is why he asked my help.

The seeds are of undoubtful quality of classic and uncrossed Marolo. I don't know the size of the mother fruits they come from: I know that these are the same seeds used by true farmers for having the selected seedlings for best production.

Believe me, I'm not a seller but a simple collector and annonacea-addict: after four times I bought Annona Crassiflora seeds without having success, I finally found a rare supplier which is a guarantee of the freshness and quality of the seeds. And you know how important is it when you have to manage with seeds for passioned collectors.

By the way, I also found by myself a good way to have seedlings....but this is a secret I share privately  8)

Cheers,

Giampaolo

Ok, due to many requests, I'll share here a simple trick suggested by my friend for better seedlings result:

1) Put the seeds soaking in lukewarm water together with Giberrelic Acid GA3 (1 gr. per litre) for 24 hours
2) Put them in pots with "akadama" soil only or red porous well drained soil. Please avoid mulch.
3) Water 2 or three times per week in fully exposed to sun and, in any case, avoid prolonged humidity in excess in the roots or the seedlings will die
4) Try to keep at temperature around 28°C in the day and not lower 15°C in the night. Moreover: be patient, because this is a specie for conosseurs and sometimes it take some monthes before popping up!

Personally, I didn't use the GA3, I simply scared the edge of the seed. but i found very helpful all the rest of the trick, specially the soil to be used!

Is the same phylosophy of Coconut when he said: "I abandoned better chemistry for better living approach & keep my Chemistry Knowlege for bomb making during a zombies Apocalypse"!  ;D

Giampaolo

Dear Dreamfrutas,

1) I never said those photos are mine, or from my marolos, please use glasses if you need!

2) I don't live in a climate like Brasil, as you well know, so is obvious the trees are not mine!

3) The photos came to my email from my friend in Brasil and I cannot assure fromwhere he tooks. But I'm sure that he has many trees belonging to associated Marolo farmers he officially represents and he personally owns a nursery where a lot of marolo are grown up every year. I had proof of that.

4) Frankly, I don't care to your marolo. Everybody knows that bigger fruits doesn't mean seeds are better. Furthermore, maybe the seeds of my friend come from bigger than yours. I don't care, why should you?

5) Thanks for your correction to Annona crassiflora: you were so cultured!

6) I'm not here to discuss or debate with people. So please, if you feel touched in your selling activity, I'm sorry I cannot help you!

7) Before impeaching someone, please be polite and fair in your staments.

THIS IS YOUR STATEMENT ABOVE, you forgot to edit or delete it:

I would add also some photos of Marolo from my friend trees:

So now are not anymore?

Yes, I am very cultured, I am a fruit collector and studying fruits  for over 20 years now.

You provocated my reaction with your fake title of this treat, that is all.

Cheers

1) Sorry but you misunderstood: the marolo has been NEVER mine and I NEVER say that. The trees belong probably to my friend or to associated farmers my friend represents, again: use the glasses!
2) I'm not guessing on your expertise. I'm complaining on your aggressive behaviour, to be reported do the moderator. You started in this way.
3)The title is correct and precise. Nothing to be reported. Again, please be polite next time.

Hi guys, here you have a photo of the seeds of the first shipment. They arrived to me mixed with bran to better preserve the quality. I opened some in order to see if they were not completely dry: were simply perfect!

Seeds arrived and treated with GA3, around 20% sink in water and have potted these first. I will post later if any sprout. Someone stole my akadama soil so I resorted to planting in a pumice and peat moss/akadama mix. A friend here in Thailand has succesfully fruited Marolo and recomended using pumice over akadama soil in Thailands humid climate.

Hi guys,

It's been 3 weeks since I planted my seeds in a pumice mix and my wife has told me she can see signs of life already. As I mentioned in my previous post, my akadama soil was stolen and had to resort to pumice. I soaked the seeds for 36 hours using GA3, took them out of the solution for another 48 hours (I had to source new planting mix) before soaking them again in water overnight before planting. I thought the delay in planting may have been a problem but have read elsewhere it may be beneficial. Im offshore atm, will post a pic once home if the mrs can keep them alive!

Great chance Calum, cross fingers for you!

I have good news and bad news about these seeds. The good news is my ordered arrived quickly, the seeds were in good shape and some germinated quickly. The bad news... well, I'll get to that in a moment.

Annona coriacea:
(https://s10.postimg.cc/kwawludcl/IMG_6125.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/kwawludcl/)

Annona crassiflora:
(https://s10.postimg.cc/tfyvxcb2t/IMG_6126.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/tfyvxcb2t/)

Duguetia lanceolata:
(https://s10.postimg.cc/630uetuz9/IMG_6127.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/630uetuz9/)

I grew each of the three species in three separate tubs. The Duguetia and Crassiflora seeds have not yet germinated, but the tub of Coriacea seeds came up very quickly. As the seedlings grew I was surprised to see two very different looking plants in that tub. I asked some friends who have grown Annona coriacea before, and they said neither one of these look like Coriacea. Perhaps they are Annona squamosa, Annona montana, or some other common Annonas.

I don't think Giampaolo is dishonest, but his friend in Brazil is either a scammer or just very sloppy.

Hey Joe,

Great to hear they sprouted so fast! Now for that bad news... So sorry about the mixed bag!
If you look in that bowl labelled as Annona coriacea, you will see two distinct set of seeds...

One a darker, longer, thinner, shinier seed, which I think most looks like a sugar apple seed...Annona squamosa...I count around 6-7 dark seeds...and looking at the lighter green seedlings on he right side of your tray, if I had to guess, they fit  A. squamosa, ....or something close to it.. maybe cherimoya/atemoya??

The other seeds in that bowl of A. coriacea are more lighter brown, and flatter...hard to tell, but agree seedlings do not look like A. coricea.

The Seeds in A. crassiflora look about right.

I didn't notice that there were two types of seeds in that Coriacea bag, but I'm glad I took the picture.

Someone suggested the other might be Pond Apple (Annona glabra).

  8) I'm glad you did, it helps in the ID.

Pond Apple? No I don't think so. The seeds, nor the seedlings(darker ones) match pond apple.

Hi Joe, sorry if I've checked only now your post, I was very busy in the last weeks.
Regarding to coriacea seeds I had the same surprise, that's why today I forwarded your questions to my friend in Brasil.

I expect his feedback asap, and I 'l be back to you as well.

Thanks,

Giampaolo

Joe, I got the feedback by now. Sorry if it's in brasilian, but my friend only speaks that language. Here it is the conversation:

I asked him if there was any error related to mixing the seeds, and that was the answer:

"Impossível qualquer mistura de sementes. Resta saber se quem recebeu mais de uma qualidade nao as misturou ao semear. O que acho improvável,  visto que vão embaladas e denominadas. Como vc mesmo as recebeu."

So that seems it's not the cause, nor mixing of your seeds since they were all labeled and, to be sincere, this guy never gave me wrong, false or mixed seeds in more than 5 years. Furthermore, he added:

"Mas de imediato posso dizer duas possibilidades. Polinização cruzada ou sexualidade.  Como tenho certeza da procedência das sementes vale um estudo mais profundo.  Para isso tenho os departamentos das universidades para uma analise mais científica."

So it could be that there has been for strange reason a crossed pollination between varieties! Very rare, but it also happened in the past to him. He owns one of the biggest farm in Cerrado with a lot of fruits cultivars. So it could be..

When I asked to him why some seeds were with different colours of the same specie, that's was the answer:

"Sim,  coloração é normal. Todas,  inclusive marolo tem essas variações. Dependem do ponto de maturação do fruto, da secagem,  do tratamento e outras variáveis m Marolo por exemplo tem infinitas colorações . Desde a casca do fruto, polpa e sementes.  Mesmo sendo da mesma matroz vemos variações"

Until the seedlings are more bigger and the leaves are in their right shape and consistency I think is difficult to say they are not A.coriacea. But the fruit is the truth: I will ask him to contact his friends in university to have a feedback from them as well. If the answer is not satifying you I can arrange your payback to what you received. By my side, I will keep mine since they could be a very rare variety I wouldn't miss.

The nature is very strange sometimes!

hope it clears for the moment,

Giampaolo
