Best Way To Ship Black Star Suriname Cherry Scions?
« on: May 29, 2019, 01:52:46 PM »
Several people have expressed interest in obtaining scions from my Black Star Suriname Cherry.
It's finally stopped blooming and I need to prune it back some.
I assume the less time between cutting them, shipping and grafting the better.
What size scions are best for grafting... and what is the best way to ship them for maximum survivability?
Thanks.

Kevin

Treat it like any other scion, except it takes longer to dry out.
Quicker you Cut , wrap and ship, the fresher it will be.

I have never actually sent scions... so this would be my first time.
What is the best size for someone wanting to graft?
Leaves stay on or off?
Wetter the better?
Etc?

cut off leaves, and place scions in plastic bag (zip lock style), and cover them with barely damp, coarse vermiculite...make sure they are completely covered by vermiculite, so it insulates the scions.

Size suggestion?

kj

chopsticks are easy to graft, but bigger is better if you can, because fruits quicker, and gets established quicker...but bigger cuttings like sharpie or larger are harder to graft...so chopsticks for people who don't have lots of confidence in grafting abilities

Thanks.
