I had a few people who wanted Texas persimmon seeds and now I have a couple of leftover seed packages. I collected these from a very nice large tree in my area.
The fruit are the size of a large grape but very sweet. You squeeze the skin and the pulp squirts out, so there is no peeling required. The trees grow slowly though and are dioecious. I have never tried to grow them because it is relatively easy to find the fruit around the county. I am in Zone 8b and we get around 34 in rain per year, but I have seen these growing west of here where they get less, like 28 in rain per year. The water here is ridiculously alkaline (pH =
and they thrive in it. The fruit always ripen when it is over 100 degrees in August.
Let me know if you are interested. I like unusual species from the Myrtales, if you have something to trade.
