rare myrtaceae to ID, from Misiones, Argentina
« on: July 13, 2018, 03:15:31 PM »
The nursery owner said it bears fruits when jaboticabas are fruiting... they call it "guaviyú sin espinas" but, clearly, it is not myrcianthes pungens

would it be an Eugenia, Myrciaria?

It bears fruis in the axils of the leaves, not in the main trunk as jaboticabas.

The fruit is black and very sweet (I didnt tasted it and dont have any photos for now!)

The smell of the crushed leaves remembers me to jaboticabas or uvaias, it is not strong.

The seller told me about the fruit: "It is like the cherry, black color, the skin is hard as the jaboticaba, it is more juicy and sweet, the pulp is a light purple color."

Help!

No... thanks for asking... so sad...

Helton wrote "Eu tenho essa espécie aqui mais não tenho certeza ainda de sua identificação. Possivelmente seja Eugenia moraviana, mais ainda não posso confirmar!", but I see it so different to E. moraviana...

Maybe I will get some fruits from the mother tree in some months!

I would love seeds when you are successful fruiting. It reminds me
most of my Eugenia Florida trees?

Beautiful looking fruit, Marcos! Another very nice find. Did the vendor say how many years it takes to fruit?
