To many sugar apples
« on: July 21, 2019, 06:14:32 PM »
Only my 2nd year getting sugar apples, hand pollinated some last  year and got about 6. Didn’t hand pollinate any this year and have several short branches with 5 or 6 or more on them. Some look smaller. Do I need to thin out my sugar apple tree? Never heard that before?

Do you want more small sugar apples or less bigger sugar apples?
Last year my dream atemoya had allot of fruit and on some branches there were 2-3
in a clump. I did not thin and they never got big?
I would experiment and thin some and leave some.  Mainly the ones I would
consider thinning are the ones that are right on top of each other.

My two Na Dai are loaded as well and I see small ones still forming
I also have some small trees this year with a few fruit on them including Big Red
has 3 and Isan Indigo has 2 on one and 1 on another. I also have 2 on Vietnamese
type. I can't wait.

I leave them alone. Some drop off of their own accord and those that do not are a bit smaller.

Thin 2-3 per branch or they won’t size up. Anonas don’t self thin like mangos

Many on my two trees just turn black and can and do drop off of their own accord. At any rate, it's infrequent to have many more than 2 or 3 per branch (on my trees) anyway.

Thinning now won't make much difference.  If you had thinned when they were nickel- or quarter-sized, the remainder would have gotten much larger.
