Since you are across town, any chance you could locate a Chinese Bayberry, Myrica rubra. I have two of the three "strawberry trees", still missing this one.

sorry don't have this one now.

I know of a fruiting tree, but the fruits are of poor quality (I believe conditions aren't proper for this fruit in FL)

What can you tell us about A. globiflora?

I wish I could tell you more...but here is what I know:

the tree doesn't get huge, I believe it can easily be fruited in a pot for many years.  Probably enjoys a neutral to alkaline pH, with good drainage.

I'm sure it can tolerate a freeze, but I'm not sure of the minimum kill temperature.

the fruits are small, about the size of a golf ball at best...they look just like a mini-guanabana.

the aroma is strong and sweet...much like a guanabana...the pulp is very succulent, and has a flavor that reminds me of guanabana, and monstera deliciosa (the flavor will appeal to an open minded fruit collector, but will be sure to scare off some of the less adventurous fruit eaters).  Also, the seeds are not very numerous....so there is plenty of pulp to eat, even though the fruits aren't large.

Annona globiflora makes a very fragrant fruit...I think it needs to be very ripe before consuming...and I keep eating them a bit early....they need to be almost entirely black on the outside.

the flavor is a bit intense...with a banana laffy taffy aftertaste, and aroma....combined with guanabana...it's got to be very medicinal.

thanks Ed!

the taste is very nice...it's hard to describe, but the fruits seem even more succulent than sabara, with less fiber (this has the smoothest pulp of all varieties I've tasted)

has thin skin, with less tannin than sabara.

the aftertaste is also slightly different than sabara...it really does remind me of a jaboticaba with a coffee berry flavor (not coffee beverage, the actual fruit), hence the name, jaboticaba cafe.

Luc,

u know I'm just kidding...if a 20yr wait for fruit scares you off...then you shouldn't be growing rare jabos...lol

but if u can get flowers in less than 8 yrs, I will graft my thumb to my nose (t-bud), and get the name "Vleeracker" tattooed to my forehead.  :D

Do you ship your plants?

I am very very interested in many of the Myrtaceae plants you have.

Seeds would be okay, but plants would be great.

The greenhouse I work in has potential room for bigger plants, but the seedling areas are all full.

great sale, with lots of rare plants!

I'm pleased to announce that Flying Fox Fruits will be at the Manatee Rare Fruit Council Plant Sale, May 18,  2014 (10am-4pm).

Here is the website with all of the details.

I'm going to bring some of the rare stuff that I've been saving for this sale!  There should be a decent selection of Annonas, Garcinias, Eugenias, Pouterias and Myrciarias!

yes I ship plants, but I'm still not set up to ship to a few states! (Ca, Tx, La, Az)

I can ship scions, seeds, and sometimes small tissue cultured plants (don't have any TC plants now)

I have a small amount of yellow grumichama seeds for $4.50 (pack of three seeds) or buy 10 or more get them for $1 each.

domestic shipping via USPS priority for $5.50, or first class for $3 (email for international shipping rates)

these seeds are from the most delicious grumixamas I've ever tasted...I believe they are a superior strain, and will likely produce seedlings that are similar (in terms of fruit quality) but I can't guarantee they will be yellow fruited....so some could turn out purple.

back again!

same deal as before!

Yellow Grumichama seeds available now for limited time!

(even have some seeds from a rare orange fruited variety...check out this pic comparing yellow to orange fruit.)

Remember the seeds might not come up as yellow or orange....but at least you will have a good chance of getting a superior strain of Grumixama!

Hopefully later I can get some Tori and Aiden....(the mother trees are very tall, and difficult to take scions from, or I would have got some already....I didn't feel like climbing the trees!)
