Anthracnose Mango help needed we had tons of rain
« on: December 29, 2019, 12:17:38 PM »
Hi all.  Had rain, fog, day & night all month & today stopped.
I snap off spotted & eaten leaves every morning.

I have copper, neem, weak (bought online) potassium silicate.
Between rain storms used copper (made leaves nice dark green & helped mold but it's back), neem twice, foliar nutrients once.  Have not used potassium silicate yet.
Neem made leaves shiny but still getting spots & eaten.

A dozen flower spikes have started, many dozen yet to but showing signs.
What can i spray this evening out of all i have?  I don't mind if it hurts some of flowers.
And if i need to get something else, i will asap.  DiamondR & hardware stores are close.

Thankyou, Ed.

Got sulfur today and tried this.  My notes-
Tree is 20yrs old kept 10' high max, 25-30' wide as hedge.  Grows very tall if ya let it.
Don't know variety, very orange inside, slightly fiber but sweetness is my goodness beyond any i've ever had.

Mango spray 12/29/19
3 tbsp sulfur
4 tbsp neem
1 tbsp dawn
1 tbsp simply silica (brand)

Mixed with water for 28 tbsp (14oz) total.
Set sprayer 10 tbsp per gallon.
Lasted just enough, some sulfur oily paste remained in sprayer.
Less neem or more Dawn next treatment.

Tea bags - after reading posts here, what tea bags do i go buy tomorrow?
I'll use tea from here on out if possible.  Bugs & creatures & ants from animals & wind ect is not going away though.

We have sustained success preventing fungal issues by focusing on our soil health with our 264 mangos.  Nutrient deficiencies caused by inadequate soil life is the root cause of plant pathogens and plant mineral deficiencies.  Milk based sprays and manure based compost teas along with soil health principles have helped us to mostly eliminate all fungal issues.  Even during this prolonged period of wet cool weather we haven’t had problems.  This is not an overnight quick fix but it works.  You want the bugs and ants, they are part of the soils health.

What i did yesterday did nothing but make tree smell like sulfur with a shine.
I see brown spots on 1 day old flower shoots.
Please tell me tea bags to buy at Publix if it trully works or i have to hose tree with copper.
Ants don't help here.  They killed banana tree roots more then once.  Luckily i have a couple dozen.

You have to use chamomille flowers to make the tea,not chamomille essential oil.Chamomille its tthe most common tea you can find at any grocery store or supermaket.

I did a quick search on Publix.  look on aisle 2, they have Celestial, Bigelow, GrenWise and Traditional Medicinals brand chamomile tea bags.  Read the box on these, at lease one must be the actual flowers.

Thank you!  Will go tomorrow & teach whoever is looking at tea too :)  Interesting wetting seeds & towel with it.
I did spray 1.5oz of copper before dinner.  I know i'm to blame for not spraying it during summer or perfecting it's soil, pruning late (cause of heat) but it's got to give me some fruit come spring after getting none this year due to them all falling off black, pea size.  I did not know about sulfur either for "safe" powdery mildew treatment on flowers.  I did nothing.  I'm new to mangos, bananas i've got under control for 10yrs.  Never knew how good mangos are till this tree grew some after years of living here.

In the short term a spray of sulphur or liquid copper or even something like mancozeb will combat anthracnose head on. In the longer term trimming effected branch and opening up the tree to better airflow will help and burn diseased foliage and branches.
So besides spraying you can do a few things to minimise anthracnose.Soil health and nutrition is the key. Check pH is in the optimal range and if Ca and N are sufficient, as well as micronutrients. Mulching or having soil additives that encourage soil organisms to flourish is also helpful. Soil drainage is also very important and make sure watering isn't wetting the leaves.

Chamomile tea bags on grocery list.  Also 1lb of  the flowers.  organic.
Question- how about pure tea tree oil & dawn?  I do know tea tree oil is very very good anti fungal.
I'm shocked anthracnose chat isn't active here considering the wet Dec we had.
