Problem with black sapote (Diospyros nigra)
« on: December 04, 2019, 03:11:58 AM »
Hello everybody!

I've germinated a couple of months ago some black sapote seeds, but after the leafs were formed, the trunk and later the new leaf became black. Afterwards 4 of 8 seedlings died. Recently one of the 4 left also got the new leaf darker (as you can see on the picture) and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Had someone had the same problem?

best regards!
Dima

Your soil looks lacking perlite and could be too heavy not allowing roots to breathe, Try repotting with a new soil mix that is 15% course perlite or sand.

They don't like too much water and enjoy high temps and reasonable sunlight when young. Well drained potting mix is important.

Black sapote have massive root system. They are going to be root bound quickly in that tiny pot, your going to need root prune often.Might try growing in root pruning pot.
