I know very little about guavas. My wife is from Nicaragua and likes them, but, the one I planted here in AZ always tasted bland to her. I had Beaumont Red and would let it fall off the tree before giving it to her to eat. I even waited 3 years for improved quality and it did not work.
I am not sure there is a native Nicaraguan variety, but, I think she likes soft flesh. Anyone gave a variety with a high brix reading?
Also, in central america they call them guayaba. Any other countries have a different pronounciation?
