Yes it is. Ginkgo biloba fruits. They are still unripe indeed.
I have already seen them in an Asian market, just the seeds without flesh around, and it might be buy to be roasted ( I've never tried indeed )

Worst smelling fruit, don't know how anyone could get past the smell of the fruit to get the seed (silver nut).  One of the few trees to survive Hiroshima atomic bomb, still alive today.

Very pretty tree planted all over major cities in the north east US. Most if not all that are planted are male trees, but sometimes the tree can switch genders... During the season everything under the tree smells bad and the fruits cover everything in a nasty pulp.
