I'd be surprised if it ripened! Sorry to hear about that. Hope it doesn't happen again!

looks awesome Alex! I've tried Pantin, Pace and magana for sure. Not sure if I've had others, I often buy them and the varieties are mixed. Waiting for the tree at home to flower/set, hopefully sooner than later. How does viejo compare to pantin? Hope to try Vidal Redondo one day too.

I once got the chance to try this variety in Florida in 2016. Believe they were grown in Bokeelia, don't have info on the farm. They were the best lychees I've ever tried!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cold hardiness of Mamey Sapote
« on: March 21, 2017, 12:29:25 PM »
I cannot answer the first two questions, but I can tell you that my dad is growing mamey seedlings successfully in St. Pete. They do look much worse during the colder months, but they grow back and look healthy again once it's warmer. I have seen a grafted tree set fruit in St. Pete also, but I do not know if that fruit reached maturity and the last time I saw the tree it didn't look amazing, nor did it have any fruit on it. Occasionally we'll get frosts in St. Pete, but it is not common. Homestead is really where the mameys are grown commercially, from what I understand.

That being said, I'm sure mamey could fruit and do well in other areas!

This will be an amazing talk, you can checkout the image for more info. I've met Dr. Crane and he's a wealth of knowledge.

If any fellow fruit lovers are coming over from the St. Pete area, I'd love to get a ride with you! PM me or comment if you're able to help me out. I hope to film the talk too and share it here on the forum.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Eggfruit (Canistel) Leaf Discoloration
« on: February 15, 2016, 08:19:30 PM »
My dad has some eggfruit (canistel) seedlings that are showing some odd leaf discoloration. I was looking online and didn't find much on this. Could it be caused by Elsinoë lepagei (leaf spot and scab); and Gloeosporium (leaf necrosis)?

This last one is the best looking of all the seedlings.

Thanks in advance!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anyone growing Nuan Thong Chan durian?
« on: November 29, 2015, 10:58:48 PM »
Check out this video about the Nuan Thong Chan durian: https://youtu.be/BDd8y7ePSmQ

Sounds like an exquisite durian cultivar. After looking it up on Google, I'm also confused. The video claims that Nuan Thong Chan is a cross between monthong and puang manee, but another site claims it's a cross between Karn-yao & Poung-manee ( http://www.online-instagram.com/media/992427998322164635_1496352367 ). Does anyone have any idea which is correct?

If this cultivar isn't out there already, hopefully it can be spread sooner rather than later!  :D

Those look amazing! How much is that in US dollars?

Thanks Noel! Looks like an awesome documentary. Hopefully one day we can all see it :)

I agree with fyliu, I use Google Chrome for my iOS device and don't have the same problem. Additionally, there are now some ad blockers available for iOS devices which may alleviate this problem. Not sure if Android has them too. Look into ad blockers though!

Thanks everyone for your compliments! I hope to one day visit Dr. Brady's property. I will post pictures here when I do too :)
