I have been using a really simple recipe of

1 Mamey
1 Cup Milk
1 Tbs Condensed Milk
1 Cup Ice
1 Tbs Sugar

Mix in Blender adding small amounts of milk to liquify.

I barely notice a difference between varieties with this mix, but in fairness Pantin has a sweeter taste, Pace a little more like Caramel, Lorito and Magana are nice, but all are AWESOME!

Hey JF,

Thanks for your adjusted recipe. I will use pj1881's recipe as the base and then experiment a little after trying pj1881's, and perhaps even try a pinch of salt even though it sounds strange to me.

hey I never heard of a milkshake with ice?

I though u just mix fruit, ice-cream and milk, to desired constancy, in a blender.

Robert is here has a great milkshake, and I believe he uses the ingredients as listed above, although he might not.

I have been using a really simple recipe of

1 Mamey
1 Cup Milk
1 Tbs Condensed Milk
1 Cup Ice
1 Tbs Sugar

Mix in Blender adding small amounts of milk to liquify.

Very good tip JF. A lot of people don't know about the pinch of salt in our batidos.

Internet recipes are not very reliable.

Just had another mamey shake...

1 fully ripe Pantin/Lorito/Pace (or two Viejo) mamey
1 scoop of Ben & Jerrys or Hagen Dazs vanilla ice cream
1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar (taste the mamey and add sugar as needed, if needed)
1/2 to 3/4 cup of milk (again, have to judge depending on the mamey)

Add all ingredients into a blender, blend till smooth and creamy...enjoy!

What kind of ice cream did you use? Or does it matter?

Sounds delish! But is it really necessary to add sugar to ice cream and sweet mamey? You wanna get me onto list of obese people? HAHAHAHA

nope, not necessary...thats why I said taste and "if needed" :)  I had some mamey earlier this year that came from Homestead.  They were watered down from the rain and did need a touch of sugar.  The shake I made tonight were from local mamey I picked  and were very sweet.

Rains like crazy here and all the mameys are super sweet. Must be more to it than just rain?? Maybe combination of sandy soil and rain?? Or??

I hear you...never saw mameys so watery.  Could just be poor growing conditions/care.  Not the first time I have seen poor quality fruit from "farms" in Homestead (not just mamey, have seen really poor quality jackfruit coming from Homestead...definitely just crappy seedling fruit).  Fruit were actually purchased for the seeds so was not a big deal, just a bummer when trying to use the flesh (literally had to strain off the water).  The mameys I have been picking/eating grown near me have not had that problem whatsoever.

BSbullie has the right idea

Thats how I make pretty much all milkshakes

Just had another mamey shake...

1 fully ripe Pantin/Lorito/Pace (or two Viejo) mamey
1 scoop of Ben & Jerrys or Hagen Dazs vanilla ice cream
1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar (taste the mamey and add sugar as needed, if needed)
1/2 to 3/4 cup of milk (again, have to judge depending on the mamey)

If you want to simplify the recipe even further you could use two cups of this...

Add 1/2 cup of milk and mix in blender!

There is a better brand, gaby's, that is made in Miami-Dade County...

...however I would not supplement fresh mamey with mamey ice cream as it would alster the taste of the fresh mamey.  After all, that is what you are after.  As good as Gaby's is, or any commercially made product, it in no way compares to a fresh mamey shake.  Soooo...ditch the mamey flavored ice cream and stick with vanilla.

I was actually being facetious.  I figure if you are going to make a milkshake keep it basic as to retain the natural flavor.

Milk to add the flavor of milk.
Ice to chill down the mixture.
Condensed Milk to offset the ice dilution.
Sugar to intensify the sweetness of the fruit.
And the fruit of course!

In the end you end up with milk, fruit, and Tbs of sugar, preserving the taste of the Mamey!

IMO, problem with your recipe is:
 - sweetened condensed milk has a distict flavor that is not needed
 - no need to add ice to the shake, that will just water it down (if the milk and ice cream are cold, your shake will be cold (I have never had an issue with my resipe...its naturally thick and creamy, chilled and no addition of a water product)...you could even chill the mamey also, and if you want the seed, cut in half to remove the seed then refrigerate the fruit)

Same recipe I use can be used with canistel (you can add nutmeg if you like for a neat twist, makes it taste similar to eggnog)
