Whats up with my soursop
« on: June 07, 2015, 01:50:03 PM »
my soursop isnt looking too good right now, it was in about 6.7 ph and had some nutrient deficiencies so i planted it in ocean forest soil with peat moss so it has a ph of 5.7 and the soil is always moist, is that too much for this plant. It gets about 4 hours of direct sun on the setting side and dappled shade all day long. It has some aidsphids now on it but i think thats because its not happy and i dont think thats the problem. You can see the new growth coming out all down the branches, should i just let it grow and see if it adjust, or did i just over do it and need to change the soil a bit.

one leaf is randomly half light and half dark, dont think that was the sun.

I think the leaf curling is aphids, maybe?

you can see the new growth shoots on the stem

Get rid of the aphids.  I don't believe that's the ideal PH for Soursop, though it's tolerance is likely to be relatively broad.  Soursop seems to thrive in wet or dry soils, from my observations, so no harm in letting it dry out a bit from time to time.

looks fine...those ugly leaves are just cosmetic...

they can withstand all sorts of bugs without any issues...

it just needs more sunlight!

put that motherpumper into full sunlight!

Some aphids and scale insects can even make stems curl.

Aphids can definitely cause the leaves to look like that.  I would  highly recommend not spraying oil in the full sun and especially this time of year.  The temps and sun reacting with the oil can cause more damage than the aphids.

Other than for mite control, will never understand the thinking of neem as a cure all...

Yea i caught that, i took it back out of full sun after i sprayed it. Neem oil works awesome, it has got rid of almost every infestation i had. Also i hate using chemicals because im trying to build microbes in my soil and breed beneficial bugs around here so i dont want anything that can disturb that.

You would have a hard time growing plants without any chemicals since water is in fact a chemical  ;)
