First Fruits of Eugenia Brasiliensis (Grumichama)
« on: October 01, 2021, 07:11:53 PM »

Finally got first fruits on my grumichama! Took a few years of flowering before setting fruit. I love the taste of these fruits. They remind me of a regular cherry. They taste best when red, not dark black/purple.

congrats on the fruit!
I always get Spring fruit. The trees flower throughout the
Summer but don't set much fruit. It does have a unique taste!

Grumichama can taste quite good if your fortunate not to have bug larva invading them at your location.

Many years ago I could get some bug larva free... I am assuming too many guava plants, Loquat trees, and with the grumichama I'm giving the bugs too many months of fruit larva rotation and thus they are all pretty bad tasting with all the bug larva...

I think I'll get rid of 2 of the 3 species and only grow one to hopefully allow a period of time without bug larva in the yard.... I just don't know which the wife prefers as she's the boss and currently likes all 3... lol...

Has any other Florida people tried decreasing species to decrease bug larva in your favorite 1 of these 3 species???

Thanks everyone! If you don't have this tree, I recommend getting it (especially if you are pushing the zones) as it has taken drought, heat, floods, and the cold very well. Also, it is a very beautiful looking tree.
