Tropical Fruit Discussion / When to pick?
« on: June 14, 2021, 07:18:46 AM »
Does anybody have a bookmark/link that can guide me when to pick different mango varieties? I just had a Guava mango not fit for consumption. Last year they were good, this one had an onion taste. I am looking for help when to leave on the tree and those that must be picked mature green.
thanks

A coworker handed me this mango and asked me to ID. His friend has two trees in his yard and they are identical. The Glenn is for sizing.

How can I tell when it is ripe. It is larger than a softball and just as hard.

I had a few pineapples die last year, I think this is the culprit. Grown pretty close together and most died growing next to each other.

Pythium and Phytophthora.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Hatcher mango, when to pick
« on: August 01, 2016, 01:06:30 PM »
It seems my overpriced (before I knew any better:-[ )Hatcher mango has an off taste. It is nowhere near the flavor of the Hatcher Mango Hill fruit that I ate. It has given fruit for about 4 to 5 years. Every time I slice into one, I feel like I was had.
When is the best time to pick? ripening on the tree, just before they drop doesn't help.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / When to pick a mango.

I have a few new mangoes producing fruit this year for the first time. I realize Carrie must be picked early and ripen off the tree.
What other mangoes are in the same class that should be picked and ripened on the shelf?

The fruit is from a co-worker. This tree in the past has given fruit in November.
Any ideas? It could be a seedling as it was established in his yard when he moved in.
Sweet, fibreless, not as great as a Venus.

Really like this co-worker he brought in d24 very large and has big flavor(served chilled). Somewhat citrus

I also had the "Amy" last night, the seed was pushing so the flavor was off.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Wild Blueberries and the harsh Winter
« on: June 17, 2015, 10:41:14 PM »
Folklore being just that, an abundant crop of wild blueberries for wildlife to bulk up is telling off a harsh winter ahead. That had me wondering when four of my older established mango trees really put out the fruit this year. Is this the year for a nasty named tropical storm for Florida?

Walked around the yard today and noticed the stress of low rainfall might of finally got the chocanon/ miracle mango to tease me with some double season activity. The fruit set this year for me was real light, maybe 15 fruit.

After waiting six years for fruit. I have found this bug in my soursop. Six out of seven soursop.

They tunnel to the seed. They do this when fully green and hard/firm.
