Why not protect when young? That’s an easy setup to put some row cover over it. I have Feijoa seedlings in ground 7b Georgia on south side of my house. No dieback in three years but mild winters 17 was lowest

Yes snakes good, rodents bad
Snakes eat rodents I wouldn’t relocate snake unless venomous

9
Nice job sir!

10
Am I the only one who eats the seeds? My family spit them all out I swallow without chewing like passion fruit seeds

I put some flying dragon seedlings in ground a couple of years ago and I’d like to graft them this spring. Looking for those hardier types I’m in 7b North Georgia. This winter I covered calmondin and two lemons with frost fabric, c9 Christmas lights, and a thermocube and to my surprise didn’t lose a leaf. Our low was only 19 degrees but I think the hardier ones I’m looking for will make it in colder temps.

I can pay postage or trade canna seeds, canna rhizomes, ornamental elephant ear bulbs

Hummingbird are heavy eaters of fruit fly plant vines and perennials that attracts them.

What's interesting is how good the oranges are with absolutely no damage.  Am puzzled when citrus orchards staff run around placing smudge pots with a forecast  into the 20's.

You think lack of winds from being in a greenhouse makes the difference?

Farmtek says a product similar to solexx but a little cheaper

If you want a custom metal kit you can try here

If you have 2.5 acres you can leave the strawberry guava for now, especially if you’ve never tried. The yellow “lemon” guava is better imo.

How about caimito?

Lots of good ideas just to mention another phase change materials. I’m going to experiment next year build a small greenhouse and put coconut oil in plastic container. Changes phase at 76 degrees

I think he had a unique viewpoint on many subjects... it's nice to get another perspective sometimes...

Kevin

Agree. It sucks that hostility leads to people leaving the forum just makes the ideas less diverse and the board less interesting.

Merry Christmas all....

If you can keep your fruiting trees small they will be easy to tarp and stick some c9 Christmas lights under for the minimal heat you’ll need

Astringent persimmon are great dried. Better than fresh imo

Another thing is ants and termites are mortal enemies. Leave any ant mounds near your farmhouse.

21
Termites burrow into dead wood to eat it. Can’t really do that with wood chips. I only ever seen termites in old tree stumps, rotted fence post, and yes house framing

Daikon radish is great at adding organic matter to soil. Just sow and leave them in ground to rot. Annual cover crop, manure, worm casting, compost whatever is around cheap/free

Thanks for the report. Yeah those typically are some of the best to fruit in containers, other than citrus which you have not mentioned. You might enjoy this guys posts from 7b:

There are a couple of threads too on what people have in greenhouses, can't find them right now. One day I will build a greenhouse. I have a great spot in front of house (southfacing) to do a lean to style only thing stopping me is my wife I will win though eventually...

Oh I’ll take pics of what’s outside. I’m curious what tropicals are giving you some enjoyable fruits I’m in similar climate to you.

Nice write ups. So when are you going to show us the greenhouse you put all your plants in?
