Title: Please help calamansi is dying :(
Post by: Jessg333 on October 17, 2017, 09:56:53 PM
My calamansi tree was doing well till I transplanted and trimmed it. New buds die immediatelly so it can't produce new growth and old leaves are dying.  Here is what it looks like. If anyone can tell me what's wrong it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Those leaf 'buds" were damaged by insects while they were still very immature.  I sometimes have had the same problem, most lately with new growth on a Dekopon tree.   When the trees are starting to flush fresh new growth I spray the foliage with a 1% horticultural oil spray  every 3 or 4 days and have not had any further problems with the leaf's growth.

Thank you for the advice Millet! I will follow what you have suggested. Susanne thanks for your input. I didn't see any sign of spider mites so I don't think that's it.

Jessig, the damage could have been caused by aphids, thrips, white fly and who know what.   Insects such a white fly and thrips and many others, that suck the juices out of the leaves, are so small it very difficult to even see them with the unaided eye.

Is HLB in Hawaii?  When I was on my honeymoon there last year I overheard a nursery owner discussing that citrus trees were all dying.

Millet, I have aphids and other insect problem a while back and sprayed the plants with insect killing soap. I thought I got rid of them but maybe I didn't get rid of them all. I don't see any bugs but as you pointed out they may be small and hard to detect. I'll continue spraying.

Brian, Hawaii does have HLB but I don't believe it's wide spread. I need to look up the symptoms and see if it matches.  I wouldn't want to have that in my yard.

Thanks for all the help guys :)

Thank you Millet for your advise.  You were right. I have been spraying my calamsi weekly and it is now looking much better and growing new beautiful healthy leaves :)
