The only sweet and chewy ones I know are: African pride, geffner, and Lisa.

Frank- do you have anything else to recommend him?

Hi dragon,

I found a new member molo who wants to do a joint order. You're more than welcome to do it with us.  The saving is about $25 bucks for me since I don't need all 10 scions (limit 10).  I don't even have enough rootstock to graft 10 anyways so it'll go to waste.  Which part of town are you in?  I work around the Mira Mesa area. You can stop by to pick up once the order arrive.

I'll wait until tomorrow to place the order with frank just in case other members want to join in.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Soursop leaves problem
« on: February 09, 2017, 02:23:16 PM »
Problem might be  COLD TEMPERATURES,  WET FEET, POOR DAYTIME ENLIGHTMENT or a combination of them.
For sure not the exhaust of your cars, plants actuallly use carbon dioxyde for photosynthesis....

I let it out in the yard for sunlight every morning and move it back in the garage around 7pm to avoid the night temperature.

Based on what I'm hearing, my soursop should be fine for now. Thank you guys.

Was the garage door closed?

Yes rob.  But I didn't see the yellow dry leaves till today when I move in back in the garage from last night exposure. To think of it, weather in San Diego in the low is around 45 degree.  It shouldn't be that bad.  The closed garage with two cars inside could've let out carbon monoxide.

Hi guys,

I bought this a week ago. The nursery told me not to plant this until March when the weather is warmer.  They told me to leave this in the shade until then to avoid the frost at night.  I left it in the garage the last couple of days but left it outside last night.  This morning, I notice a few yellow leaves.  Is it because I left it outside last night or from leaving it in the garage with my cars?  What should I do guys? 1. Outside 2. In the garage or 3. In my patio? Thanks

I have a gopher digging near my papaya tree as well.  I have guava, atemoya, and a few pepper trees next to it.  Do they like those?  I bought the gopher poison to treat it but still seeing signs of new digging.

How do you guys fight against these guys?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Are these cherimoya ripe?
« on: January 20, 2017, 10:20:07 AM »
I have a custard apple 'san pablo' which is giving up its first fruit. Should I wait till it is soft on the tree before picking?

No, once it is soft on the tree, if it would survive that long, you would most likely lose out on its quality.  As I stated in a previous post, many fruits should not hang on the tree till they are soft/fully ripe.  Most likely than not, by that time the fruit is compromised in some way.

One more thing to add to rob's comment, from what I've seen, by the time it ripes on the tree, the seeds inside already germinated which will not taste as good because of the new texture.

Trying this baby here tonight.  Very juicy and sweet.  This is el bumbo right? I will definitely plant one of these guy for sure. The taste on this was much better than the one at the tasting.  In my opinion, some of the ones I tasted wasn't fully ripe.

Khoi,

I usually do it like this guy. Do it in the summer so it roots faster.

Hi garcinia,

A friend of mine, Patrick here in spring valley, was able to root the cuttings through his mini green house that he created in a used fish tank.  Hopefully he sees this post to give you some pointers.

I'm not sure how far 9b zone from east la but if you're near, stop by mimosola.com to buy a matured tree for less than $100.  I bought one last year and it's growing very strong and healthy.  Hopefully to get fruits this coming season.

To me, rooting is fun but it'll take forever for that small cutting to form and a few years to harvest.

Where is cherimoya? That's one of world's best fruits, and you're in one of the few areas where it grows well. I'd have a grove of cherimoya trees.

She's probably like me who prefer atemoya over cherimoya.

What about adding a Lisa atemoya? Or cay coc

Glad to see this open invitation.  Hopefully it's on so I can come.  Maybe this will change my view about cherimoya being the superior fruit compare to atemoya.

Thanks Thera.  This grower has a large ppc that you wanted to buy last year.  The fruit is about 2 lbs but all cracked because of this cold weather.  I asked to buy this and the ppc fruit but he said it won't be ready for harvest for another two months.
