Mango: how to encourage fruit set?
« on: May 01, 2012, 04:27:19 PM »
My "unknown" mango tree has a few blooms, it was planted in May 2010.  Have had blooms every year, but no fruits. Should I water it more now, or less? Weather here is warm and dry currently, mid 80s F.
Thanks,

...good pointers, and as far as watering...I would say NORMAL...certainly don't let it dry out now.
If you did, I think it would drop any fruit that sets....

AND....how did you get a 10A USDA rating in the "Central Valley" of California????
What would be your zip code Newgen????

Good luck with some KEEPER mangos......Fang

Your mango's leaves and flowers look very healthy.

Mango flowers are pollinated by various small insects, especially flies.  If you have been spraying insecticides during bloom time, you may be bug-free and mango-free.

Sometimes trees with healthy-looking leaves and flowers don't actually have enough Calcium and Boron and Zinc to set fruit or to maintain fruit sets.

Interesting. Didn't know that. Thanks, Har.
