Why won't my goldenberry set fruit?
« on: September 22, 2015, 09:02:44 PM »
There are quite a few flowers, but they just browned out and dropped.
Thanks,

Not enough light and possibly other nutrients I think. Mine in the ground is much thicker and fruits. It has a lot of disgusting beetles on it so I prune way back every few months.

It could be lack of pollination by insects

Looks like the flowers are not even opening though.

Hi all,

Lack of  sunlight  is  not the problem, this is Bakersfield after all.  ;D
Too  much water? Possible. I  water every day, because if  I skip a day, the leaves show sign of wilting.
It's also very likely that there's enough insect to pollinate the flowers. I just moved  the pot to a different area to try and  attract the bugs. I'm contemplating putting it  in the ground,  winter lows  here  can get to  the  mid  30s.
Thanks,

Mine always do better their second or third year. If everything is perfect and the seeds sprout early I can sometimes get a crop the first year but true success comes late in the year. The early flowers never seem to make much fruit. I do have some sort of pest that eats a hole into the fruit through the calyx and destroys it. This doesn't seem to be the problem in older plants, I don't know why.
