When to harvest ilama?
« on: July 20, 2016, 10:18:19 AM »
I have only one fruit and I don't want to screw it up.  It looks ready to me but I would like someone with experience to chime in. It was much darker red colored and there are a few healed splits. This is on my Genova red.

Looks to be a ways off.  The fruit should "crack open" on the tree.

Did you get hit with potato leafhopper? It's hard to tell, but the leaves look mottled.

Yes, I have potato leaf hopper and both ilama got hit by spider mites before the rains started.  Both look pretty rough. The other tree is worse and did not flower this year.

Yes as Bullies said wait till cracks open to harvest and let it sit on the counter usually takes one more day to be soft and creamy...

Never pick an Ilama before it has split.

A combo spray of BotaniGard and Neemix will eliminate both the spider mites and the leaf hoppers. Weekly at first, then bi-weekly once populations are under control. You can mix the two with your micronutrient solution in the same tank. Night and day difference on my sugar apple, atemoya, and guanabana (aka the spider mite magnet). Also make sure to keep weed population down, as they can serve as hosts. With Har's help, I finally have healthy and productive annonas (after nearly a decade of trying :-).
