12/01/2016: SoCal mangoes start pushing flower?
« on: December 01, 2016, 02:01:35 PM »
Night temperature is below 50F  recently and I noticed some of mine are sending out flower stalks. Are yours doing the same? Mahachanok can bear fruits this early but I think others like Edward will be too cold to have fruits.

Some trees are putting out flowers now...  Rosigold, Graham, and Venus for sure.
Nam doc Mai put out flowers in October/November, but was likely a 2nd crop.

This is my Carrie mango on a turpentine rootstock.

We had reached 37.3 farenheit in the valley -- still doing good.

Gozp,
Hope you protect your potted Carrie tree in winter.  Based on my experience, Carrie is more sensitive to cold and overwatering than other varieties in Southern California.  Most people will probably tell you to not fruit the tree this season...I know it's tempting when you see all those nice flowers.

Thank u, my friend. I will not protect it & test if it will survive after giving all the goodies. :)
