The story of Two Mahachanok mangos
« on: May 23, 2017, 07:20:44 PM »
I understand that both Excalibur and Zills imported mahachanok from Asia, but that the trees are slightly different.  What are the differences?

The are actually 6. Harry has 3 and Leo Manuel from San Diego has his own from the Thai government
The best I've tasted are Harry's, Leo Manual and Excalibur are next

Highly doubt any differences other than location, rootstock and care.  Owner of Excalibur brought the trees in.  I believe ZHPP obtained their original tree from Excalibur.

Harry had the same as Excalibur. I know this because they taste exactly the same as the fruit from my tree, which I purchased from Excalibur.  He also fruited 3 seedings, which are no longer to be considered MCs.

I think Rob is on to something. I've had them from 8 different locations

From Harry
from the Tampa , a graft from Harry
from fruitscapes Bokeelia??
form San Diego Leo Manual's yard, his Maha from thailand
from Gary in Palm Springs,Excalibur tree
my yard La Habra and my mom's yard La Habra, Excalibur, Harry's graft
from Simon's yard in SD

Harry's were the best

The fruit on Zill's rootstock tend to color up earlier than those Grafted by Excalibur. But it's the same cultivar.

I believe ZHPP obtained their original tree from Excalibur.

I believe ZHPP has both: one brought in from Asia and one from Excalibur.
