I live in Florida and my sabara in the ground was 32F 2 nights in a row and 30F about
2 weeks later and it didn't even blink? It has great new growth since our early warm up and
has a few flowers already? Your tree's trunk looks so dry? Its incredible the difference.
How long were your trees in the 30's? Is your tree in ground or in a pot? If its in a pot
I would put the pot in a tub of water. If it's in the ground water daily but avoid getting water
on the damaged trunk.

I am not 100% sure how long it was in the 30's, an its in the ground. I am not sure why the bark is so dry looking, the ground is fairly moist.

I've never seen a jaboticaba affected by cold and I am in the same 'zone' as you. Could it be something else that is troubling your tree? How low in the 30s did it get?

I would say it stays around the low 30's at night for the past week.

Last year my Jabo hit 27F and lost the main trunk, but there are a couple of other
stems coming up from the ground (suckers, alternate trunks?)
a couple of those survived and it grew bushy again in 1 year
probably becuase the root system wasnt badly damaged.

this year it hit 20F. ... record breaking cold in 50 years at least.

i had put a bucket of hot water under a bedsheet to protect it.
hoping it would stave off a hard freeze.
i had piled up dead leaves/compost too.
when i removed the compost, there were still a couple of green leaves on the plant.

anyway, they can get damaged badly, and im guessing you might loose that main trunk
but, its very possible it will start to re-leaf in a month or 2 from the ground, or sending up suckers etc...

January arctic blast New Orleans

My red just after the frost.
no recent pics, they both look much worse today.
but, i still think they both will come back, even if its just 1 small sucker.

this pic is actually from December
before it hit this year
the damage is from last year.
when the large branches cracked, i lost them totally.

Yes it will survive!
Mine started few weeks ago and now is flowering. I am in Oceanside.
"The bark tends to peel off in curls as the trunk and branches expand".
