For Jaboticaba Obsessive Compulsive Growers

From Brazilian sites. Tons of info.......great info. This is how Brazilian growers do it.  Some redundant info but all outstanding. You might have seen the first two videos but the links that follow are the real gems.

This is all old hat to you Adam.   :)   :)

I've read some very conflicting information (I believe from the same source, Harri Lorenzi), about the ultimate size attained by some of these myrciaria species.

If I recall, at first he states that M. tenella only attains a maximum height of about 1-5m (in brazilian fruits book), but it turns out it's more like 5-8m in his new book.

And there were other species that had gained a few meters, since his first book.

I believe the second book is probably more accurate (Brazilian Trees Vol 3), but I'm not sure.

I suspect those trees are also quite old.

I have a jaboticaba in the ground and three that I keep in pots.  In March 2012 the jaboticaba that is in the ground was 39" tall, in November 2012 it was 56" tall and since November it has barely grown. I use spent mushroom compost around the tree because it retains water very well and water it enough to keep it constantly wet. The only fertilizer I use on this particular tree has been rabbit manure and composted chicken manure. It seems as if it is impossible to over water these as long as they are actively growing. The tree was originally 20" tall when it went into the ground in March 2011. Pic taken in June 25,  2012
