« on: January 14, 2012, 01:06:30 AM »
I will be adding to this FAQ over time and I will include a link to a post that answers the question if it cannot be answered in one or two sentences in the FAQ.

1)How do I care for a mail order tree?

2)What type of potting mix should I use?

3)What are everyone's top 5 tropical fruits?

4)What are the best books on tropical fruits?

5)What are the best websites for tropical fruit information?

6)How do you "pug" a tree?

7)Which variety of sapodilla (Manilkara zapota) should I plant?

8)Where can I buy tropical fruit tree seeds online?

9)How do I fertilize my fruit tree?

10)How do I label my trees?

11)What is wrong with my mango tree?

12)Where can I buy tropical fruit online?

HOW TO:

To change the color of the font of a new message or reply from the light grey to black, click the little "Toggle View" button which is the furthest button to the right in the row above the smileys row. We have to thank Oscar for figuring this one out.

Before starting a new topic, please check use the search box to see if the there is already a topic on the subject. Also, please be descriptive in the subject field to avoid ambiguity.

To embed a youtube video, simply post the URL in the body of your post and the video will automatically embed and be viewable after you submit your post.

To post a picture:
  • Above the "smileys", click the button the furthest to the left and it will give you "img/img" (but with brackets) and you paste your URL to your image from your own hosting such as picasa or photobucket.
To display what zone you are in, go to your profile settings and add your city, state, and zone into the "custom title" box.

Here is the USDA plant hardiness zone map: http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/

You can click on Member Map in the menu to see where members are located. At the bottom of the member map is a link for you to add your own 'pin' to the map. That link takes you to your profile where you can ad a pin.

Gerry, I wish I had an answer to that questions two years ago.

Squam,
Well, I am hoping now with a forum with sticky's and FAQs I wont have to tell everyone to use google lol. Let's see how well that works out.

Don't worry Harry, it will be up soon. I know you are dying to know which mango variety you should plant.

When I type in the message box the font color is very light in color, almost impossible to see.  It is the same in the subject line when I am typing in a post.  Is there any way to darken this ?

UPDATE! The button in the post screen with the little blue arrow inside red [ ] will change the text to black when typing!!

Speaking of questions, Harry, what kind of mango is the one you're using as your profile photo?  More importantly, may I have some please?  Right now?  It is gorgeous.
I feel some good karma coming your way.  ;)

Dan:

The mango I am using as my avatar is a fruit from one of the three Maha Chanok Seedling trees I planted in one hole and which all fruited for the first time this past year.  This was obviously the best looking of the three.  Frankly, the picture doesn't even do it justice.  Perhaps I'll do a summary thread of this project here in the new Forum as I do want to document the fruiting this year  to see how the fruits changed or remained the same in their second year.

Can I suggest a:

5) What are the best websites on tropical fruits?

To me, a Google search does not always provide the best results as it often is the most "mainstream" answers.

That is a problem for me also. I don't know why it is not a solid color. I think it may be because of the theme we have installed. We will try to fix that soon if possible.
Thanks, murahilin!

In case members have not already seen my other post, all you have to do is click on the "toggle view" button when making a reply, and it will switch fonts from very light grey to dark black color. It's the button on bottom right, and has red brackets around it.

Hi Mura,
Thanks in advance :) I prefer using Picasa over Photobucket...uploading a pic with picasa is much faster compared with bucket.

I beg your pardon. I was having no trouble.  I was just testing you to see if you really knew what the heck you were talking about.  Thankfully, you passed the test.
