Taproot of artocarpus X chempedak!
« on: March 19, 2013, 05:02:01 PM »
Today I tried to transplant my Cheena seedling from its plastic bag to a new one because of the bad dranage of the soil and I found a huge tap root. The root just touched the bottom of the bag.

Interesting Mike, how tall is it about the soil line?  I've wondered if tipping the roots of artocarpus at this age would help with long term container growing?

In my experience, there are no problems in artocarpus species's transplant , but you must be care any roots damages(i know that you know this )...and artocarpus species are need well drainage soil...sometimes roots are almost 30cm or over the lenght, so  you must plant in a long pot.
Sorry for my poor english.

The soil line is about 30-32 cm and the seedling is 8 months. I think the next step is to repot it in a bigger pot or just in the ground.
The seedling is very young and I am not sure if tipping the roots would help.
