What is wrong with my naval orange tree?
« on: November 16, 2018, 12:41:04 PM »
Hello!
Our orange tree has been doing wonderfully the last few years - we get tons of huge naval oranges. This growing season, I've noticed that the fruit is smaller and the tree is more sparse. About 30-40% of the leaves are curled and yellowed. I've also noticed this a bit on my meyer lemon bush, but the orange tree is really looking bad. I use the oranges for my home bakery and am heartbroken that there is something wrong with the tree. Photos below - how can I make it feel better? TY!

Looks like combination of leaf miner damage and nutrient deficiency. Adding epsom salt may help with the yellowing.

I agree. Looks like leaf minor damage. No big Problem.

Cut off the affected growth and spray with Imidacloprid next May-June after the first flush.

To correct the mineral deficiency add rock dust around the parameter of the tree in Feb-March and water well to soak in.  This will cure any mineral problem. Reapply every 4-6 months.

You can probably get more answers by posting in the Citrus section.

Also it should be corrected to 'navel' and not 'naval'.
15 years back while visiting the city of Vishakapattanam, called as Vizag, India's Naval HQs, I was offered to browse a book on Indian trees. I noticed in the section of citrus the variety of Naval oranges!. I mentioned to the friend of the author that it is 'navel' for belly button as one end of the orange has a similarity to it and not 'Naval' like in the Navy!
