Fruit tour to Costa Rica - July 27, 2019
« on: April 11, 2019, 03:44:54 PM »
The specialty travel company, Explorations Inc., is offering a unique botanical trip to Costa Rica for dates of July 27 to August 3, 2019.

In consultation with the Collier Fruit Growers and the Bonita Springs Tropical Fruit Club, the 8-day educational itinerary was designed specifically for tropical fruit enthusiasts, gardeners, foodies, and nature lovers.

The tour showcases the beauty and flavors of Costa Rica’s botanical diversity. With visits to 3 educational facilities, farmers markets, and a tram through the forest canopy, participants will get a close look from top to bottom! Not only is the scenery and flora spectacular, the locations visited provide excellent birding and wildlife viewing.

A great opportunity for learning, the itinerary includes private tours and workshops at the preeminent botanical facilities in Costa Rica, with a full day and a half at EARTH University, a full day at CATIE, and a half day at Lankester Gardens. The tour is escorted by a naturalist guide and the use of private transportation allows for short stops and flexibility. The accommodations were specifically chosen for their quality, lush landscaping, and surrounding nature.

The group size is limited to 20 participants and there are currently 6 spaces left. For details and trip brochure, email info@explorationsinc.com. Tour may be viewed online at https://www.explorationsinc.com/costa-rica-fruit-tour.html

With due regards Mr Newbee Explorer, it appears that you are in the WRONG section of the TFF. You should try to put this advertisement / commercial in the sell, buy and trade section of the TFF. Hope the moderator will remove from this section.
Thanks.

Costa Rica is going to have an epic fruit season this year.  But I think these guys are jumping the gun.  I am going to give an update on the fruit season in another month or so when the dates will be better defined for most of the fruits.  Also, this program doesn’t seem to visit independent growers who are the ones really on the cutting edge of rare fruits.  I have shared material with both the institutions mentioned, neither of which has much of a program to introduce new fruits.

I was thinking the same thing, Peter. I really love CATIE and go there quite often. But, when it comes to practical growing info and experience, I don't look for book learning and hear-say from a well-meaning bunch of very nice young people. Great independent growers here where you can really harvest tropical plant wisdom.  But, I guess when it comes to a CR tourist plant tour, the easy and impressive thing to do is go to the "institutions". And, it sounds like a great tour and intro to CR fruit growing.Wonder what the price tag is?

BTW, I look forward to your "updates"! I'm having LOTS of trees blooming, and I think maybe I'm going to have lots of fruit to give away. . .  fingers crossed. My pulisans are hanging in there for my first-time crop.

Peace

Seems deliberately coy.

I apologize if I posted this travel announcement in wrong place. I did research first (with searching the forum) and it seemed to more appropriate here than the forum selling fruits location.

Contact for questions is in the posting and detailed trip brochure is available. To reply to posted comments, the price per person in double occupancy is $1,800 USD (without airfare). Good comment re importance of discussions with local farmers which is usually fun and educational. Not only may we visit small farms along the routes, we will interact with growers at local farmer's markets and roadside stands. The goal is to learn and for participants to ask questions of interest.  Unfortunately the mentioned Finca De Isla is too far off the route as it sounds great. Glad to hear crops are looking good.

This section is fine for this post. I think that the buy sell trade section is more for tangible products not trips such as this one.

Looks awesome!
Too bad (ok, not REALLY...) that I just blew all my travel money on a trip up the Amazon.
OMG, I am going up the freakin' AMAZON!
