Title: purple flesh avocado
Post by: jlohr on October 01, 2019, 08:40:44 PM
I came across an avocado tree on my property that has purple fleshed fruit.  Not the best tasting but very unique.  Any idea why this is?

That is peculiar.
Any chance you would like to distribute cuttings?

This is totally unique. I can't say I've ever seen or heard of this.

I have "Purple Haze" avocado that does produce some purple color, but it is just around the seed cavity.  Wonder if purple is a common characteristic for some avocados.  The Purple Haze fruit is decent eating, but nothing special except the purple tinge. How does the Belize purple fruit taste?

The flavor of this avocado is bland and watery side so definitely not the best.  I just collected a bunch more from the tree so will try the taste again when these ripen.
Its a decent sized tree so can send scions just not sure they'd be viable after a week or so in the mail.

It would be interesting to see if this Avocado has different nutritional qualities to a standard Avocado. For example purple carrots have more antioxidants than orange carrots.

Hi jlohr, I have sent avocado scions through the mail that have spent 12-14 days and they where just fine.   Regards   Patrick

These last 10 avocados I collected from this tree had a much better flavor and were richer than the first couple I collected and they are still all purple fleshed.  I'm wondering if the first few I collected were slightly immature.
If anyone wants scions I am happy to trade a few for either mango or other avocado scions.  I just need some tips on how to collect and package in order to mail them out.
