Sweet Tart is an upright grower and doesn’t require spraying at my house west of Orlando. Orange Sherbet and Fruit Punch are lower vigor growers for me. There are loads of low vigor mangos that will work for you.

Here are some quick pics of the of my Talinum paniculatum in a 7 gallon pot. Just placed some white plastic under the pot to collect seeds. I purposely quit taking care of it back in late July to see what it could handle, I already have some other small plants to replace it if needed. It’s lost some color, but that’s due to being potted up in mostly yellow sand and no fertilizer since July. I’m planning to sprout a bunch of seeds and see how they taste in that form as well.

Spondias dulcis, aka Jobos or June plum are propagated by cuttings or airlayers quite easily.  I got a nice sized dwarf tree in a 25 gallon pot, puts out loads of fruit each year.

I've had them during the month of August, while on surf trips to El Salvador.  I'd rate the pink fleshed ones above cherimoya and atemoya, and on par with good quality pawpaws.  I've had loads of cherimoyas from both Hawaii and California and loads of atemoyas here in Florida, so I'm not judging from eating a small sample.

All the trees I saw in El Sal, were much better looking than the ones I've seen in Homestead, granted pest pressures are probably higher here in Florida.  The trees also have a more upright growth habit with less overall canopy in El Sal versus here.

So far this year the top tier is:

Dupuis
Brite Bite
Seacrest
Cac
Phoenix

There is a large group of second and third tier mangoes.

The Dupuis I got from Verna Zill last week takes top honors. Fortunately, she surprised me, and pulled out a handful of Brite Bites. Those two are pretty unique, I can’t place those within any of the standard flavor classes.

The Cac I bought from Alex and Becky @ TAF were phenomenal.

White Pirie smokes those other two taste wise, it’s easily a top 10 mango most years, top 5 last year for me. Ice Cream is unique but not even top 25. Lil Gem is very good, but not top 10.

When I was at UF, getting my Hort Science undergrad, the most interesting watermelon research (to me) was grafting seedless watermelon cultivars to squash rootstocks. Grafting to Cucurbita maxima Duchesne × Cucurbita moschata Duchesne was studied as well as grafting to Cucurbita moschata. Both helped limit root and crown diseases. Research was done at a few of the big watermelon producers fields on west coast of Florida.

I just came across Talinum paniculatum, common names are Fame Flower, and Jewel of Opar. The leaves taste just like the baby spinach I buy at Publix. It’s native to South and North America.

OFDSurfer, I was at your place 7 or so years ago, to drop off some 3 gallon Luc's garcinias. I remember you having jackfruit, is your tree still doing well? I've got friends that just moved to Indialantic and were wondering what tropical fruit they could grow.

Mine is in full shade under several mature live oaks, and is 12 feet tall and produces fruit 6-8 months out of the year.  I'm 15 minutes west of Orlando, in Winter Garden/Ocoee and winter temps haven't affected it all.  Each year the crop load gets larger, and the fruit also gets insect probing, but no larva in the fruit so far.

Hey Peter, am I able to eat pulasan at your farm?  You told me a few years back that August was the time to visit, to be able to eat the largest selection of fruits, including durian. Did I remember that correctly?  If so, I need to take some time away from visiting Puerto Jimenez and Guanacaste to head over your way.

Dwarf Orinoco, Dwarf Red, Dwarf Namwa, FHIA 1, 2, 3, and 18, 1780, Mysore, Blue Java, Dwarf Iholene, Dwarf Brazilian, Apple, Pear, and Patupi/Kokopo are all good banana cultivars

There's some others, just can't remember right now

I bought mine as a large 7 gallon tree in 2012 from Lukas Nursery in Orlando. I planted it out as a large 25 gallon tree in 2017, and saw a few flowers last year for the first time.  This year it flowered heavily, and I've harvested close to 200 fruit.  I'm guessing the birds have gotten around a hundred and there are at least another hundred still on the tree.  So, I figure mine is minimum 15 years old but more likely 16-17 years old.  Its currently around 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide.

If any one is curious, the fruit was grown in Puerto Rico, not in Ocoee, where I am located.
