Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Moringa Varieties - Miracle Tree
« on: July 14, 2016, 08:12:36 PM »
I turn my moringa leaves into powder by drying the leaves in the garage, out of the sun.  Then, using my MagicBullet blender to chop the leaves into powder.  The strong taste is gone & the powder can be stored long term.

Here in my area, moringa goes dormant during the winter.  I prune my single tree down to about 3 feet.  I've tried rooting some cuttings with no success thus far.

i have an addiction to online ordering of tropical fruit trees. I already have:
20+mango tree
10+ guava
15+ cherimoya,pandan
mangosteen
asian gooseberry,
june plum
ice cream bean tree
15+ banana
rose apple
logan
lychee seedling
soursop seedling

I just ordered 1 lychee grafted, 3 more mangos.

And now, I'm going online looking for more things.  How do you control this addition?  I don't have any urges to buy new shoes, clothes,or jewlry like I do with tropical fruit trees.

Which online fruit tree brokers do you recommend from experience?

Worm manure aka castings
I also use free mealworm manure aka insect frass
Both won't burn plants

I know people that have used chipdrop.  Just be aware, they'll dump their entire load of mulch, whether you want it or not.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pigeon manure for papaya plant?
« on: January 28, 2016, 06:02:56 PM »
Papaya trees are heavy feeders, so I recommend fertilizing them.  However, I do not recommend uncomposted pigeon manure.  Compost it with around a 3 parts carbon:1 part manure.

Pruning the dead leaves should be fine

Doesn't it prefer mostly shade?  If so, it would be great for less desirable areas of the yard, like Brazilian spinach

Recipes / Pasture-raised Lard or Tallow?
« on: December 23, 2015, 02:20:30 PM »
Which are the most nutritious & best tasting, in your opinion?

I've read pasture-raised lard has more Vitamin D, but tallow has more CLA.

Which do you recommend?

I agree with going by height.  My Dwarf Namwah fruits with only around 9 leaves or so.

« on: September 12, 2015, 01:04:03 PM »
I love my Dwarf Namwah.  Thick pseudostems don't need to be staked.  Lots of delicious, ladyfinger bananas.  I usually give quite a few away, as there are so many.

Thanks RodneyS for your words. How about the taste?

The taste is liked cooked spinach or pak choi.  I also drink the broth after boiling Chaya.  The cyanide turns into vapor, which you should avoid inhaling

447
Chaya is a great vegetable -
drought tolerant
pest resistant (due to the toxins)
good for shade/privacy
tilapia love it

Only drawback is that Chaya goes dormant during the winter.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Worm compost tea
« on: August 09, 2015, 01:00:54 PM »
If you wanted your plants from city water won't it kill the beneficial bacterial in the soil?

I remove the chlorine by pre-aerating the water for 12 hours during the summer/24 hours during the winter, before adding the mix.  I used to put the castings in a burlap bag, but now I just dump them directly

I believe I've had good results, but nothing scientifically studied

1 gallon of worm castings from my bins
6 tablespoons of molasses (I bought mine from kelp4less)
Azomite
insect frass
maybe some Epsom salts

The container I use is around 15 gal.  I aerate the water overnight during the summer/24 hours during the winter.  Unless if I'm using collected rainwater, which doesn't need to be aerated.  I also use wastewater from my fish tank, which makes the compost tea even better.

I actively aerate all the ingredients for 24-48 hours.
