Major changes to latest NHC forecast. Everyone in Southeast should watch #Erika this weekend for additional changes.

CNN and the other alphabet networks are drama queens.  I don't trust them.  Here's a solid source for info. http://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/atlantic/2015/tropical-storm-Erika

Likely due to geographical issues like mud slides or drowning in floods. Florida is a bit flatter and the most we will deal with for a minor storm like this is falling trees and the occasional flood,  and beach erosion. Great time to go metal detecting on the treasure coast.  I wouldn't be too surprised to see surfers. A class two or less isn't even worth getting upset about unless you live right on the water. Hell, we still go to work for a tropical storm hitting us directly because it is not an official day off. They might close schools for a tropical storm, no kids so I don't know for sure, but federal offices should still be open.

Important to remember that even if Erika survives as a weak, disorganized system that is still has the potential to cause flooding issues and be a significant event. We've already seen Erika do just that in the Caribbean. If Erika were to follow the current track, that would put a large portion of Florida in the heavier area of storms for a good period of time. Still need to be vigilant with Erika. http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=3093

FYI at sustained winds of 40 mph schools dismiss, first responders and hospicestaff  don't go out, home health doesn't go out either. First responders and hospice/home health resune services when FEMA/Red Cross declares "all clear" for area. School resumes according to school board decisions.

Drama Queens? That's an understatement!

I've seen reporters near less than 1" of snow, and little puddles saying how the snow was drifting and water was rising, pieces of trees and downed stop signs (likely from dead trees and an old guy hitting the stop sign with his car) showing the "Devastation" there. Gads I am embarrassed for them :-)

1PM Friday

Local 10 News hurricane specialist Max Mayfield said the storm is "not very healthy," which bodes well for South Florida.
Mayfield said he's less concerned about the wind as he is the rainfall.

"It's forecast to slow down," Mayfield said.

Mayfield, who previously served as director of the National Hurricane Center, said there is no correlation between the intensity and the rainfall of the storm.
"Overall, the system is going to be headed in our general direction, and I think the threat's likely going to shift over to rainfall," Mayfield said.

Might be a little heavier rain than we have seen in the last couple weeks and a decent breeze. Again, FL is flat and doesn't flood easily. My area hasn't seen flooding in the going-on 60 years the neighborhood has been here and we aren't that high.

Kids might get off but I doubt it. The only thing I might get beneficial is maybe they will turn the tolls off on the toll roads like they did for the last tropical storm. Save a me a few bucks going to and from work.

LOL! Reporter paddles up in a canoe, then two guys walk past in knee-deep water!

If Erika doesn't knock out the power or some trees, I'll have no complaints.

It's raining here in St. Pete right now, just a normal summer afternoon thunderstorm. If Erika brings anything like the rain we got earlier this month (10 days straight of rain, 9 inches total) I'll be out battling the plants with pruners and loppers - they just get crazy growth when it's warm and wet.

Mowed the lawn this morning, so I'm good for a week.

Latest is you'll get some rain, little wind from a depression or small TS at best.  http://hardcoreweather.com/thread-26211-page-15.html

Oh the drama!  It's time everyone bow their heads, stare at their CELLphones until it's over.  ::)

I will tell you the real reasons New Orleans was devastated so bad from Katrina...

1) some of the pump workers left town.
They are supposed to "man" the pumps to get water out of the city.
Now, some levees broke. that is a separate issue, but the flooding in Metairie
was due to pump workers leaving town.

2) Crying WOLF.
Every year we would get a tropical storm heading toward New Orleans.
The weatherman always says... play it safe, and leave town.
I must have heard that a dozen times in the 5 years before Katrina.
People got sick of it
Every year when a storm was i the gulf, they would say...
this could be the next Betsy. Dont take a chance...

Several times the highways were packed with traffic
people sitting for hours.... then it would turn,
and we would get 2 inches of rain, and 20mph winds.
it would be all over by the time you got checked into a room in Baton Rouge.

We didnt know Katrina would hit until 24hrs before it made landfall.
We all figured it would turn.

ive never left in my life... 53 years
normally, i throw hurricane parties. For Katrina, i was all alone
except my dog.
1 inch of water came in... just enough to make life miserable.
that and the heat, no wind... you couldnt leave the windows open, because the mosquitos were fierce,
you couldnt close them , because it was too  hot and humid.
i couldnt leave for a week, the roads had 3ft of water from my house to the interstate.
it was miserable...

pretty mild as TS go,  not even a lot of rain, been up on the roof checking the satellite dishes where I work a few times,  just some wind and little rain.

computer models on Erika have been terrible,  they predicted it turning north around PR, then between PR and the DR,  then again over DR,  now they predict it will turn north over Haiti,  frankly I think Erika took one look at those mountains in the DR and said, no way Jose, kept going west.  :o
