Pickering Mango and Concha Picuda Chirimoya
« on: September 15, 2012, 05:39:07 PM »
Had our first Pickering mango. Taste wise, pretty close to the ones in Florida. Had a more subtle coconut after taste but a bit sweeter than the ones from Florida - 8 out 10. Concha Picuda Chirimoya, per contra, a bit disappointing. Fair texture but bitter near the skin. Taste a bit like a sugar apple with less seeds..... the flesh was segmented and chewy - 3 out of 10.

Thanks for the reviews JF! That Pickering looks absolutely delicious with little or no fiber. How many fruit did you get off your tree? Of all the mango varieties you are growing, which variety tasted the best this year? Simon

Too bad about the Concha Picuda, maybe give it another year to prove itself, then cut it out.

Pickering looks great,

Simon, Bill and Jacob -

Pickering had no fiber and very creamy. Its taste is almost identical to the Pickerings I had in Miami this summer. Out of the 20 some mango trees I have, I would rank Pickering in the top 5 but it's still in a container. I believe once I put it the ground the fruit will get larger.

Ethan -
La Concha Picuda is from Chile. If this fruit was grown in my backyard it would've been much better, I believe.

Tropicdude -

I am in North Orange County in the City of La Habra.

That explains a lot.
