Problems with LoQuat tree
« on: October 24, 2012, 06:16:07 PM »

I have a new LoQuat tree that I bought. It seemed to be doing fine then all of a sudden the leaves started turning yellow.
The veins seem to stay green . But once the leaf turns all the way yellow then it turns brown . What am I doing wrong.
This tree is about 6 ft tall. I planted it in a container because I thought the frost might kill it. I have a picture of it on my phone
but I don't know how to get it fom my phone to this post. I know how to email it if someone gives me a email address. I need
 some help please !!!

The FAQ section has instructions on uploading an image I believe.

Unless your tree can sing pop-dance music (J. LoQuat) it is a "loquat".

No idea what is wrong with your tree, I do know that they don't like "wet feet" though.
What's that got to do with Jose Andres $10 brussel sprouts?

They can handle pretty savage frosts. I've seen some healthy fruiting trees in parts of Canberra where snow is quite common. Which part of the tree are the yellowing leaves on?

I agree with Bruce...they take the frost very well. 8) Loquat's are used as ornamentals in South Africa, In my home town, Bethal...there were quite a lot of mature loquats and they handled the frost very well...no defoliation, what's so ever :)

jrgtwocreek,
Are the leaves getting yellow on top of the canopy or below?
Time is like a river.
You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again.

I take it that the leaves are yellowing from the bottom of the plant. If so, that's normal. Mine does that when it sheds some leaves.

Move to Bermuda.  (Wild loquats abound) Problem solved.
