Thanks for the great links!  I am waiting for my fruit to ripen so that we can harvest some seeds.  Will let you know.

Duncan, if you have any left over, I would love them! I have been looking for this fruit for a long time!

We aren't warm enough to grow this to maturity, but we usually have seeds and seedlings available of various Monkey Orange species.

Depending on the season we have:
Strychnos spinosa
Strychnos cucculoides
Strychnos madagascariensis
Strychnos pungens

Let me know if I can help.

Carraig

That would be wonderful! Strychnos cucculoides and strychnos madagascariensis are my two choices, let me know when you have them!

Hi,

For anyone thinking about growing Money Orange. The variation is great. Here is an excerpt from a document I saved some years ago about S. spinosa:

"We have around 15 fruiting trees with high variability for growth, yields, fruit size, ripening season, and taste. Some of the seedlings bear astringent, bitter fruits, other bear very sour ones but two of the trees bear excellent tasty fruits."

Just something to think about if you are only planting just a few seeds.

Trying to find a resource to help identify what I think may be monkey orange. I collected some unripe fruits while in coastal kzn in South africa but the seeds are developed enough to grow. I did not see the tree as they were blown off in a storm so all I have is the seeds and fruit to use for identification for now. I'm abit dubious after reading it's related to nux vomica and don't want to misidentify
