« on: February 19, 2015, 04:18:05 PM »
I am so glad I had a chance to buy this beautiful citrus tree. This is a first year it gave me fruits and they are Delicious. Very juicy, no seeds and ornamental. Had one today.  :)

That looks awesome.  I 've never seen variegated fruit with visible stripes at maturity.  Does it taste the same as standard minneola?  The fruit shape looks different also, no nipple.

My standard minneola is just now blooming so it will be a while before I get fruit.  The minneolas I bought from grocery stores last year were amazing, but all the ones I've found this winter are squishy and bland.

Thanks.  :) It tastes somewhat like minneola a tasted before but every time I buy them they taste a little different. So I am not sure about it. Anyway the taste is really good. Some of the fruits on a tree have the nipple but also they are bigger in size than those I bought from store.

I was at Home Depot today and saw a couple of Variegated Minneola trees in 10 gallon pots. Nice looking trees with fruits on them. If somebody is interested check your local HDs. My tree has 5 fruits so far and they have a "neck" this time like a regular minneola.

Millet, it's variegated minneola. The same variety that I posted pictures above.  The green stripes turn pink-orange when the fruit is fully ripe.

Do you have a pollinator for it?

Rob, I believe I don't because I didn't find any seeds in all the fruits I had. Which one would be the pollinator?

Its not the seeds, its low fruit yield due to not being self fruitful.

Pollinators include the Temple,  Sunburst, Dancy and possibly the Fallglo.

Thank you for the link, Rob. I don't have any of these polinators but I noticed that it set more fruit being close to Meiwa kumquat now. I'll post another picture tomorrow.

Instead of relying on a pollinator tree, you can also just spray the tree with a gibberellic acid solution when the tree is in bloom.  Gibberellic acid is commonly used on Minneolas by most commercial orchards.  Gibberellic acid also works very well on Clementines. Being as you are located in Florida, you should be able to locate Gibberellic acid easily. - Millet

In many Florida groves they use a pollinator and spray with GA.

This morning I had my first minneola of this year. They are turning their green stripes to bright orange, so I picked one. The fruit is not that sweet like it would be if I picked it in February (from last year experience) but it's still has nice flavor and is very juicy. This particular fruit was slightly different from the others on the same tree. It was smaller in size, round, there was no "neck" and it was highly striped (almost all green unlike the others). I should find the pictures I took before and post. Also the fruit had many seeds (counted 17) comparing to last year (none). I will pick another one in a couple of days to see if there is any difference.

The red striped minneolas look awesome.  This thread got me so intrigued with this variety that I ordered one right before the first freeze.  It's now in my greenhouse.

I picked my first homegrown (non-variegated) minneola last week, it was excellent and completely seedless.  It had flowered in my greenhouse last winter and I used some gibberellic acid so no open pollination.

I think you should leave them on the tree a little while longer.  Just my 2 pennies...

Brian, I think you have the citrus bug.  "All I need is just one more tree."  ----- at least for now.

I finally found the picture of the different fruit. It's in the 1st picture. In the 2nd there's one of the fruits that usually look like. They are mostly yellow with dark green stripes. Pics were taken at the same time. The fruit is still young and I can see the "neck" present which was gone when it ripened.

Well, I couldn't wait.  :) So I ate another one today. I can say that there was a difference in taste between those two fruits. The taste of the one I had today was the same I remember from last year. Sweet, juicy, unique flavor, it makes you want to eat more. It had seeds (counted 31).
