Regarding ahipa, an alternative source would be: http://sacredsucculents.com/andean-tuber-crops/ (though prices are quite steeper than for Caesar's source; hopefully it becomes available there soon again, they have a lot of nice things).

Mmm, I tasted some fruits as well. I'd say I wasn't crazy of the taste of the raw fruit, similar to others above. I'd say you have better grow something more cool, like plectranthus rotundifolius. (Yeah, that's  a suggestion you may disagree with.)

Yep, I heard they are eaten. But didn't figure out how you are supposed to deal with the seeds to get rid of the outrageous smell of the fruit. There are plenty of female trees close by to my home... But the smell, always the smell, I never hate any of these seeds. How do they do over there?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Custom question
« on: November 05, 2017, 11:02:59 PM »

I am in contact with some researcher in a foreign university who was willing to send me a few tubers of an uncommon vegetable (in United States). Now, obviously, this is a serious person in a University that wants to follow the rules, not a little sneaky guy as most plant adicts are, going through custom their socks full of seeds, bromeliads hidden in their nostrils, with black glasses to get unnoticed.... Does anyone know what the official rule is? I haven't been able to make 100% sure if we need a permit anyway for importing any small tuber to United States, or if there was an exception for less than 10 tubers. Does anyone have some clue there? ---I was going to try to call them, if I can figure out a phone number.... I had found an e-mail address, but, don't know if this is because America was made great again or if it had always been that great, but this administration never replied to me in 1.5 months now....

Personally, I would not remove all the soil. I think it is more risky for the plant. Especially if the weather is hot and sunny, I think the plant is more likely to survive happily this stress if the roots aren't too much disturbed.

That said, I would kind of remove a little of the soil on the sides, and put it at the bottom of the planting hole.

That would be my strategy.

Rhaaa, I wish I could get some seeds of jaboticaba so that I could join the club. Else maybe I should start drinking and join the AAs. Hum. I will think about it. Good to know that there are always some solutions when one is feeling too lonely...

Many seeds here as well. Not sure though if it is reasonable. I think I saw somewhere that mesquite is a badly invasive species in some countries... Is it really reasonable to introduce it to your place...?
